I've had this for about 1 year. It works great IMO. It's very quiet compared to my 20 yr old Craftsman. That's the only other model I can compare it to. However, my 5 gal Craftsman is about as loud as my gas blower.
 
I ordered two of these and picked them up yesterday. First thing I noticed was how heavy they were, opened one up and put it together and like you said pretty quiet, used it on my car in the garage and it sucked up all the sand and debris I wanted, great value for $19.95, IMHO.
 
The same shop vac is going for $60 at Lowes in Canada. And the dollar is pretty much on par right now. That's a damn good deal!
 
I used this vac like 6 times over the past week and it works great, even with the cartridge filter and the extra bag type filter on too.
