Shipping a Vehicle Cross The Pacific Ocean

So as the title said I am shipping a car across from FL to Hawaii by boat so when it gets here (Even though it will be within the hull of the ship) I am sure it's going to have a lot of salt mist throughout the body.

Any recommendations for when I get it how I should wash or take care of this. I mean besides the normal washing and spraying of the undercarriage would anyone recommend something else?

I would do a full detail on the car once you have it spray down the under carriage best as possible, then clay, polish, seal, wax to setup the finish.....Because of where you live salt in the air I think is an on going battle but that's just a guess
 
Hi guys. DetailCad I think you'll find that if you are having an individual car ship you can put it in a container and send it by container ship, but as a general rule cars, when transported overseas are just driven into the hulls of large car-carier ships.

I live across the road from a harbour and see them loading and unloading these ships every few days and they definitely don't container them up.
 
i thought those were just for new cars being transported from japan and such to america. but if your shipping this as cargo then it would probally just go on to a container ship..but thats just my thought
 
You know, you should also be asking what to do BEFORE shipping. If I was doing this I would be putting on sealant and at least two layers of wax or polish. I would do the same for the wheels. Give the engine a good coating wherever possible also.

I would then go to a local car dealer and ask for some of the white protective film they put on new cars. They just throw this stuff away so you can get some off a new car and put it on yours to protect the finish.

For the interior I would get those vinyl seat covers you use when you go to the beach or want to protect against pets. Plastic floor matts and covers for the dash also.

Doing all this and more will help protect the car during transport and make your cleanup a lot easier.
 
i wouldnt be to worried about it. i think they have those ships sealed really tight. i dont think it will get much mist at all. they have those hatches that are water proof. because if they had a rogue wave go over the top it would sink the ship if it wasnt water tight.
 
All the people that come from France and work at my old company said they ship all your belongings in sealed containers. If it was me i would just go and buy a car cover and put it on before they seal the container.
