Sheepskins smell really bad...OK to use?

I left them damp for a while in a bucket....I guess that was a mistake and now they smell really bad, they are soaking in a bucket with some car wash soap now, are they OK to use and what can I do to rid the absolutely rank smell?



EDIT: Ok, now this is really gross, there are green spots all over the inside of the mitt...should I just throw it away? Obviously its infested with mold..
 
smells and sounds like you have some nice mold growing. im sure you could try and clean it some more, but that smell probabyl isnt going anywhere.



might just be time for a new mitt

Funny thing is theyve been used only twice but there were stored in a bucket in a cabinet with a paper towel over them and I guess they just werent dry enough.



There is definetly mold on one of them, green spots all over the inside off the mitt. I feel really stupid.
 
Mine never smell great......they are skin covered in hair after all. I would just toss them and buy new ones considering what EuroW mitts cost. I always hang mine dry after washing them and haven't had a problem yet.
 
Won't bleach harm the mitt? I have bleach for colors..maybe this is better. I just tossed them because there was huge numbers of colonies all over the inside...it was truly disgusting, looked like moldy bread. But I am curious if this would actually kill the smell and not harm the mitt.



Note to self: Do not leave damp/wet sheepskins in enclosed spaces. Mold will grow.





QUESTION: I have a picket fence in my side yard, can I stick one of the sheepskins on their (mitt through the post) so they can dry better??
 
I would just agitate them in some water with a little bleach. All you have to do is make contact with the bleach and it will kill it. Then you can hang em dry on your fence. Put something like a wash cloth or MF over the picket so theres no harsh edges....
