SG - Love the look but...

It's so hard to get it to look right!

I put one coat on last week and put a coat on each day this weekend. For coat 3 I had to re-wet it and buff it out to get it to shine. I know I put it on a little heavy but I didn't think it was too thick. Anyway it came out nice and I cleaned it up with PB QD.

But...

Now that I have taken it out into the sun I notice faint scratches that run on the hood front to back. I can't seem them from any sort of distance but they are there. That's after 3 coats of SG (I don't think SG fills from what I heard). Do I need to machine to get them out or can I fill with something?

Thanks,

Tom P.

3 coats of SG! Wow...totally unneccessary IMO. 1 coat should do fine...and remember THIN is the key!

That stuff is hard to buff off if you do it too thick

Detergent wash a few times..start over.

Nah, the haze is gone and it's bright and shiny. I wet it with a damp mf and buffed it out lightly. Then I hit it with QD. Looks great. Just need some sun to let it shine!

I wasn't impressed with the shine after the first coat and I've heard others say they layer SG. At this point I want to hide the half dozen ultra faint scratches in the hood. I'm thinking the P21s will do it. Hope to get that done next weekend if the weather cooperates.

Later.

Hey Tomp - I heard that SG works like AIO now, that it is wipe on wipe off rather than waiting. If you want rid of the light scratches you'll have to prep the paint first....compounding,swirlmark remover, polish.....a sealant will only enhance any fine scratches or swirls in the paint and topping it with PS21 or another carnuba won't hide em either.. :)

I looked at the finish under bright sun today and couldn't see the problems anymore. I had a friend look at it too and he had problems finding any scratches. I haven't done anything to it but the vehicle has a light coating of dust on it. The farmers are plowing the fields and there's local construction. Can't keep the car spotless for more than a day or two! :(

Still shining great though. I like the look of the SG but I have this urge to try UPP and/or EX-P for ease of application.

I'm not sure. I'm just giving my thought processes at this point.

I'm just saying I'm tryng to take off my perfectionist's hat and not look so closely at it. From 5 feet away you can't see the scratches unless you look really carefully at the right angle. I don't think it's worth starting over at this point. It's not for the showroom. It's for show-off! :)
