Set Location + supplier

I was thinking about a set location to start detailing and was thinking about being a supplier as well. We only have one supplier here and all he carries is Pro products.

What do you guys think? Will it help me cover the overhead at all? I know it will cost more for start up but with some good funding it shouldn't be an issue.

Also, what about doing work like one of the "consumer" car washes? Maybe have people work for me that just do washes while I take care of the detail work?

I just really am not sure where I want to take the business. I am just starting out but I already have some land to put a shop on in a GREAT location and I want to make the most out of it. I am just doing it part time right now but I fully plan on being full time with a shop within a year. Wishful thinking but if you don't shoot high why even shoot at all!!!

I love detailing and right now I can only dream of doing it Full Time.:spot

Have a couple hundred grand that you can lose and not kill yourself over? Then go for it, otherwise it is probably not a good idea to undertake if you have to ask questions like that.

not trying to be a jerk at all, just trying to save you some money and stress. About 9 out of 10 small businesses fail...mostly because people try and force a pipe dream into reality without the proper :funding, training, or experience.

Consider a partnership?

What question are you reffering to?? Being a supplier or doing basic washes? I will be doing basic washes there as well but doing them myself of hiring someone to do more of them is the question.

Where does the $200k come from? I have the land next to a family business that I do 50% of my work from already. Water and electric already there. How much do you think putting up a shop would be?? The only way I would be in for $200k is if I buy $150k worth of supplies to sell.....not gonna happen.

I had a couple of simple questions and you had to go the negative route. If you can't answer the questions why even reply?? If you knew the situation than maybe you could give me that reply but you really don't.

yeah if you have to ask a question you shouldnt even be thinking about it....LOL

- how else are you supposed to find out answers??? some of the smartest people ask the most questions!

if you have a shop location, it is no doubt going to be to your benefit to offer detailing to go along with your supply selling. you can hold event that showcase your skill, as well as demonstrate how a product works in order to upsell from OTC type consumer products to boutique professional products

I would have one or two guys work on washing, interiors, wheels, tires, windows, trim, etc. while I did the correction work. Maybe have one person inside selling the products, you polishing, and one other person helping on the car. Then when no one is in the storefront, have the supply seller guy come help on the car. Always have someone with a phone headset so calls dont go unanswered while open.

It would be really cool to have the detail bay viewable through the storefront portion via a sliding window/glass wall. Then clients could watch from the comfort of a chair, or glance at the car, see what products you are using, and then maybe pick up some of the products for themselves while they are waiting...

Hope that is some of the info you were looking for...

Thanks.....that is the kind of answer I was looking for. Like I said previously, I really don't know exactly where I am going to go with the business but the shop is the most attractive route to go. Many different ways to make money.

I just really have a great opportunity with the land so I want to utilize it as best I can.
