Selling the Biz?

I am using a brokerage firm, and in a year contract with him, I have had some inquiries but nothing solid yet. I was wondering if maybe I should throw it on Craigslist, I have heard of a business owner in the area selling his on there pretty quickly. What do ya'll think?

Couldn't hurt. It doesn't cost anything to do that. I would imagine you'll get a lot of people saying "now isn't the best time to try and sell a business" but I think with folks losing jobs and such, someone with a good work drive who has lost a job might be interested, especially with your already established client base.

I would agree with Jared, there is no harm in trying to list it there.
Not only that I am sure that the brokerage firm will be pulling a commission as well and if you sell it on your own that just means more money in your pocket.

You may want to check to see if there are any clauses in the contract that states eve nif you do sell it on your own that they wold not be entitled to some payment.

Unless it wsa negotiated out, I'm sure it's there. With that in mind, if you get nibbles turn them over to the broker. Then let the broker earn his money and qualify them etc.
