Scratches, Swirls and dull paint

Hello everyone, I often check the forum out and my wife already thinks I have more stuff to Detail a car than I need but I could use some help. I just got a Black '04 Disco. It is sweet but it was delived to me and it was raining at the time. Now that I get a chance to look the vehicle over this thing needs a serious make over. The dealer told me that they waxed it and dressed the trim and I am sure they did but there is a swirl mark on the hood that looks a little suspect. It looked like a piece of grit go stuck in the applicator or what every was used to remove the wax, so there is the equivalent of an eight inch audi symbol etched into the paint. You can't see it if you look dead on and most people probably would not know it was there, but if you're like me then you know a well detailed vehicle is like a moving work of art.
I have a Porta Cable 7424 and some Meguires pads. I used it on my last black vehicle. A Black Pathfinder abut 2 years ago. It worked well but I never had a problem like this on that car. I have new tube of Meguires Scratch Remover and was wondering if I should do the whole car with it. The lower body panelsy have some kind of hard burgundy paint or something. I can scrape it off with my finger (not the preferred methond), but now sure what it is. Will a clay bar help? The plastic trim around the wheel well and rear of the car also have specks of white paint, not sure what kind. Does anyone think a clay bar will take those off or does anyone know something that can?
I am trying to get away with not buying anything or very little additonal products to do the job. Here is what I have to work with:
1. A Jar of Meguires Cleaner Wax
2. Meguires 3 step Crystal Care system (Setp 1 is almost gone thinking of replacing it with the cleaner wax or the Scratch X, the polish and wax have about half a bottle in each.)
3. 1 bottle 4 star UPP and 1 bottle UCP.
4. 1/4 of a bar of Clay magic(need more.)
5. About a dozen micor fiber towels.

The paint on the the back door of the disco looks dull. Its only been washed and wiped in one direction and it show. I would like to bring the paint all over the vehicle back to life could someone please help.

Well that scratch probably got there from the dealership. Dealerships dont really do quality detial work. Well I cant say all of them becuase I know some do good work but the majority will do quick sloppy jobs. Run your finger over it. Does it grab? If so then it is too deep and in that case the dealership should do something about it to make you the customer satisfied. As for the stuff on your vehicle I woudl give it a thorough claying, and make sure to use alot of lube with your clay. I would try to avoid using clay on your trim. I would try the following.

If the junk on the trim has a texture to it like it is raised up then I dont think tha method will work but if its just dreid white dots then its probably wax. USe light pressure with the above method.

If you cant feel the scratch on the hood then try some scracth x on it with some muscle. It will take a few times and make sure to work it in until it dissapears. To restore the rest of your vehicle I would go to a local autoparts store and find meguiars #83 and #80. You can use those with the pc on a polishing pad.
