Scratched my rear bumper, and paint came off. *PICS*

One night I was backing into my driveway, and for some reason, I didn't look at my driver's side mirror and I (more than) grazed the side of the fence. There was a lot of paint transfer and some scratches that I took care of with some DACP, but some went all the way down to the plastic on the bumper.



Here are a couple of pictures:

There are more of them, but these two are the main ones that I would like to take care of.

So, I searched here's my plan of attack:



- clean area with alcohol

- mask off right up to the scratch

- apply first coat of touch-up paint, wait, apply second coat

- allow to dry (one, maybe two days - depends when I can work on the car next)

- clay area



Does that sound ok?

Your most likely going to have to wet sand your touch up areas. If you want to be near perfect. Touch up like you have planned and if you can live with it, then thats up to you. If you want a more un-noticeable job, then wet sand and polish the area. Do a search on wet sanding on these boards, there are probably some threads that explain how to do it, or maybe someone else can chime in and explain. I have no experience in wet sanding.

Like General Lee said, I would reccomend a light sanding of the area after each coat.



Do a search for the user "Brad B." and touch up paint. He did a phenomenal job fixing the paint of his siler Porsche. It took him a while, but you'd never know.



I personally would also put a coat or 2 of clear over the paint, that way you won't freak out when you see paint on the pad next time you polish.

Plastic bumpers are generally very hard to get paint to stick to. If it never sees a pressure washer you might be ok.
