Scratch-X before AIO?

I have done a search and read what I could find on Scratch-X , SMR, FI II, etc. but I'm still a bit confused  (normal for me). I definitely have some fine scratches, but nothing major and they don't show much at all on my white paint anyway. However, before I use AIO I thought a product like SMR or Scratch-X would be beneficial. Problem is, I'm really not sure what's best for my situation. I don't want a filler, I want something to polish out the scratches. I guess Scratch-X has mild abrasives, but is more of a fill and hide product? Also, how does it compare to Meguiars #9 (their site really isn't much help) or 3M SMR? Lastly, after using any of these, should I Dawn wash the car to be sure the AIO bonds properly, or will it sort of take care of that itself?

Thx

Klasse AIO has cleaning abilities so it will clean any reside left by the abrasive product. As for choosing abrasives, I am a big fan of 3M. I would go with either the SMR for the FI-II. Haze hopefully should not be a problem since your car is white.

Scratch-X is more of an abrasive product, not a filler-type but it will leave some oils. It compares with Meguiars #9 2.0 and 3M SMR, but the Scratch-X is designed for hand use (or the typical consumer) instead.

The polishing oils will be removed from the cleaners in AIO or you can do a Dawn wash if you're going straight to SG.

Very right on the money. I have tried Scratch-X in the past and it's junk. You get what you pay for.
Stick with 3M SMR if your looking to remove 1200-1500 grit scratches and swirls.

I've used Scratch-X before, and I have to agree that "you get what you pay for." Not only was it a big oily mess, but it didn't do a good job with the scratches.

Jack mentioned 3M SMR. Would the FI-II work as well?

<strong class='bbc'>I just looked back and saw that one of you mentioned the FI-II. What is the difference between the SMR and FI-II? [/b]</blockquote>
3M Perfect-IT II is more aggressive then 3M SMR for dark/light color cars.

I use Perfect-IT II for removing 800-1200 grit scratches on a rotary buffer. Needless to say that SMR is used more often by me. Very good product when used with a D.A. Polisher or a rotary buffer.

I realize it may be just a saying, "you get what you pay for", it is interesting to note nonetheless that Scratch-X is actually MORE expensive than SMR or Mequiars #9 2.0. Some more reading lead me to decide to go with #9 though, SMR for light cars isn't available locally for me so that wasn't an option.

When I used Scratch-X on my black car, I noticed all these smudge marks, and no matter how hard I pressed and tried, they wouldn't come out. Am I supposed to do something after I use the Scratch-X? Should I wash it immedietly?

I seem to recall CARGUY prefered scratch-X to 3M...........

I never tried it, but I find it easy to believe that 3M makes a better, more user friendly product.

<strong class='bbc'>FinesseIt II is more aggressive than Perfect It Glaze SMR (PN 39009 for dark cars & 39109 for light cars) and doesn't have as many fillers. [/b]</blockquote>
After talking with a product rep about just this question, it's the other way around. The FinesseIT-II is more aggressive then the glaze product, not by much but it's a tad stronger then the SMR product.

After getting much wrong information about this product line, I took it upon myself to get the real story. If you'd like I'll send you the phone number of the person I spoke to. I also spoke with my local 3M rep and he stated the exact same thing.

Hope this clears up any misinformation.

Sorry!

<strong class='bbc'>I think thats what you said?... Anyway, Scratch-X = Crap-X, mostly just fillers which will be removed by AIO. [/b]</blockquote>Hey Bradford, did you find the Scratch-X to be abrasive at all when you used it? What technique did you use to apply it? Just curious as I'm thinking of checking out Meguiar's abrasives but probably just 2.0 / #9 / BSP Hand polish (Scott?).

I havent used Scratch-x myself but my frend did and he said it really wasnt good. Also, previous posts here seem to indicate that as well. The #9 looked good but didnt remove many swrils for me.
