Hey everyone,

Have a scratch, which looks like it's a little deep into the clear coat on the carbon fiber splitters. Can this be wet sanded and buffed out?

Thanks!

Doesn't look like it can fixed via detailing. I see a big chunk of clear missing.

Okay. So attempting to wetsand/polish would make this worse? It's really bothering me everytime I look at my car. :(

I'd 1st try using a heavy compound and see if that will clean things up. If not, then go the sanding route assuming that there's enough paint there to do so.

I agree. At worst, it will probably be an improvement.

Thanks. Would Meguiars Ultimate Compound be okay? or could I get away with the Ultimate Polish?

Go with the compound. I doubt a polish will do much. Just monitor your results. Keeps us posted with your results.

Ladies and Gentleman! Here are the results after wet sanding with 2500 grit and polishing with meguiars polish. Looks like it could use more polish to bring out the shine, but overall this is progress beyond my imagination. Cheers!

I just did a very similar repair on a hood.

The amount of damage let me know not to do business with the detailer who did the damage. It is a "glad I saw the quality of work now" scenario. Lots of hacks.

glad to see that the issue was resolved to your satisfaction!

Hit it again with a finer polish to clear up any cloudiness to your satisfaction and you should be home free! great job!
