Any suggestions on how to remove a scratch from a wooden steering wheel on an 09' Caddy CTS? it seems to be a mm deep, and I have no idea on what I can do, but my customer has asked me about it. Any suggestions?:help:

Contact your local hardwood installer/refinisher. They use a urethane clearcoat over wood, alot softer than lacquer clear thats used on the exterior paint, but this is the catch, Im not too sure if that clearcoat is thick enough you couldnt just wetsand with 2500, and then hand compound, and polish. Test on the back side of the wheel. Carefull, if you go through the clear youll need to visit the dealer. 2500 grit is a safe bet it dosent cut fast at all. I had a hardwood installer come to my house to refinish my floors, he used the same process im talking of just with monster equipment. Good luck. Post pics, and results.

Repairing Scratched Wood Steering Wheels

Repair Procedure

1. Remove the steering wheel. Refer to Steering Wheel Replacement .

2. Wash the wood section of the wheel with wax and grease remover.

3. Mask off the non-wood area of the steering wheel.

Important Do NOT sand through the clear.

4. Sand with 400 grit sand paper first. Finish sanding with 600 grit.

i have been driving new Caddy's since 1977. I currently use a CTS as a DD. your client should take the car to the dealer. Cadillac is very sensitive to their customer base in the past decade and are VERY interested in brand loyality. i have had issues covered under warranty that were clearly due to "use". "bumper to bumper" means exactly that. if you are not happy with the quality of any part of your car they have always made it right, one way or another. that has been my experience with Cadillac. i also drive a much more expensive GM product and the attitude of THAT division (chevy) is poop. go figure. my advise is to at least see what the dealer will do because they have never "fixed" a problem like this for me, they have just replaced the part;). that urathane on the wood it hard as nails.

Ive noticed the exact opposite. The clear coat on the wood in my CTS is the softest Ive come across. Even lightly dragging your fingernail accross the CC will scuff it and leave marks. The gearshift knob has been replaced, too, and its just as soft...?

wow . my gear shift knob is perfect. i wear a very large (sports type) ring on my right hand and have not had as much as a scuff after one year. my last one was sold with perfect wood.
