Scrape in my leather covered steering wheel

I just noticed a small "scrape" in the surface of my leather covered steering wheel. The best thing to compare it to is a small scrape on the epidermis of skin. A couple of just slightly raised tiny "tags" can be seen. I can feel the scrape when I move my finger over the wheel in one direction, but when I reverse the direction of my finger it goes away...as if it is being smoothed over. Is there anything that I can do to fix this "scrape" and not cause a bigger problem?
 
Gotta watch the black sharpie marker. It doesn't always match the black of the interior and can make it stand out even more. Shoe polish kind of blends in and if it doesn't it's easier to remove. Check the sharpie in a place that isn't apparent first if that's the route you want to go.



You learn these things when you have a black interior. :)

Hey all:

The steering wheel, along with the rest of the interior, is gray. Also, I am trying to remove the ever so slightly raised portion of the leather that my hand feels. I don't think that gray shoe polish will do that. Any ideas??
 
Try an electric razor sideburn trimer to remove the "tags" you refer to . It may make the damage less noticeable. Or just forget about it, my steering wheels always get pretty banged up from use.

:o :hide: My bad. I just assumed it was black. Prolly because both my cars have black interiors and I assume every steering wheel is black. :doh My truck has a grey interior but the steering wheel is black! :lol



Now I'm clueless! :o
 
:hm :hm :hm I am going to call a guy who owns a professional car interior repair shop. He specializes in leather repair. I'll let you know what he says.



Also, I wear a wedding band with a textured finish. I think this defect was in the steering wheel when I bought the car. But now I am a bit paranoid that every time I turn the wheel with my left hand that I could scratch the leather. Has anybody scratched a leather covered steering wheel with a ring??
