Scotchguard? Should I or Shouldn't I?

A friend of mine suggested scotchguarding my interior. Is this a good idea or not? If it is a good idea, should I use the regular Scotchguard or should I use the Scotchguard Automotive? Is it the same thing, only packaged differently so they can charge more for the automotive?

Thanks!

When cleaning carpets I can instantly tell when a vehicle has been scotchguarded, so yes it does make a difference. The Scotchguard will not 100% protect your interior from stains and spills, what it does is act like a wax for your carpet, a spill like a soda will bead up on top of the carpet allowing you some time to get a towel there to clean it up before it can stain the carpet. If you don't get to it right away then it will sink into the lower fabrics of the carpet and stain it.

Ok, I'll go ahead and get some scotchguard...now Wal-Mart sells a Scotchguard for Autos in the Automotive section and a regular Scotchguard for fabric/sofas/chairs etc. in the laundry section....the auto stuff costs more. Do you think it's the same exact thing re-packaged, or should I just buy the Automotive one for more $$$?

It also helps with not just putting up a semi-barrier, but also makes normal cleaning easier because is prevents dirt from penetrating into the surface.
