Along with finally figuring out how to polish properly tonight, I also just about cried at the same time. I was polishing the hood my wife's Buick Enclave (red jewel) tonight with SIP and an orange pad, and noticed some strange pink ball fly out of the pad. I also thought the pad looked funny color wise. I had a scratch to try and remove, so I grabbed a yellow pad to see what it would do. After I finished with that, I turned it over and nearly soiled myself as it was pink. Now I noticed my white pad was pink the first time I polished it, but I hadn't noticed it when I started, and thought it was from my dad's Corvette I had done before, assuming it was single stage. So after examining the hood and seeing no evidence of damage that I could see, I turned to the computer, and did some frantic searching. Sure enough, the paint (Red Jewel) is a special type that has a tinted clear. I did a test with a rag and just my finger, and it also turned pink. Whew, disaster averted.
