Sander Recommendations ?

You have your ETG all calibrated so you don't take off the minimal amount of clear that Ford says is OK, right?

IF you have a rupes 21... I'd use 205 and a MFFD. This sounds off but this is my goto for hard water. Where I use to have to sand I'm able to get them out like this much faster. Kevin Brown pointed me in this direction and after seeing it first hand.... You'll be shock. Has something to do with pad loading and excessive amount of abrasives and some water. You'll use a lot of product but you'll save tons of time. Or if you dont have a rupes 21 you can do it the other way

I'll look at those tonite. I just don't believe they're water spots. Think its some kind of chemical over spray. But I can't say for sure.

Won't be getting back on the Lincoln till the end of the week.
 
LeMarque- heh heh, that was a good comeback to my concerns!

Hard to tell from internet pics, but that kinda looks like both etching *and* some kind of deposits...it'll be interesting to see how your sort it out.

Good luck, just be careful it really is a very fast cutter. I like using the optimum MF cutting with them. Even though it may be chemical, it still looks like a topical eching. I'm pretty sure that method will take care of it. Just make sure you watch it with pressure and CC removal both on the paint and the pad. Remember your removing clear very fast so you will need clean the pad almost every time, otherwise the clear will get caked on an hinder cutting ALOT. I would clean the pads using a grit guard an avoid air for this, it never really gets out all the clear the way a good pad washer does.

I did a toyota 4 runner with VERY hard spots (3 years old) an it removed everything in about 3 seconds with medium pressure, keep in mind there will be DA haze but finishing will be cake if you follow back up with 205 an a light foam polishing pad such as a rupes green or even a green LC.
 
They honestly look just like what I had to deal with, they seem like type II waterspots. These are shots from the Acura TL-S (The worst I've ever seen)



Slicing in, you see the haze through the light trails a little.


Here is the haze or as I like to call it light scarring.


Finished down with a second pass of 205, light pressure, Yellow for soft paint, Green rupes pad for normal clears.
 
Not getting the results I can from sanding. I'm still ending up with etching.

Keep in mind it's the deep (ish) etching that's the problem. While the water (?) staining in your pics and links look the same, I don't see the etching as in my OP.

I'm going to give it another try but I feel M100 on my Chupes and then going back to hit the deep etching that remains with Buflex is more efficient.

How many passes per section did it take you?
 
It took me two passes, you have to sit on it. Make sure your using a cutting an a really big amount of polish. I went through a whole quart of 205 when I did that car.
 
I hope it's working for ya. You need atleast a half dollar size to prep the pad, then a three ring spiral from the center out should be enough. I know it's a lot but I'm sure your getting the feel.
