Hay kids,

My Celica is red and about 1.5 years old. The dealer installed pinstriping is still on there. If i removed it, would it be safe? Would there be a difference in the 2 paints yet cause of time? thanks in advance

There might be. I just removed the dealer stickers from the tailgate of my truck. You can see a slight difference in paint if you look at it at a certain angle. I'm hoping it will go away after I finish using Klasse and getting some carnauba wax on there.

My truck is 2 years old and it lives outside and the tailgate is pretty much right in the sun all the time. I think you'll probably be ok.

You're probably going to need a light polish but I doubt you will see much shadow. It is a clear coat finish.

The base coat has faded do to UV exposure. All the more reason to select a product with GOOD UV additive inhibiters..........

The pinstriping is tape. I do have a clear coat. Any suggestions on a polish? I plan to do it when i do my big detail (hopefully Feb 22, 23, and 24 th, weather permitting). At that time im gonna Nu Finish polish my wheels, a little scratch x where someone brushed against my car with a coat or something and AIO and SGx2. Then blitz as my topper.

Bump to an old thread.

I just removed the pinstriping off one of my vehicles yesterday. I don't know how old the pinstriping was, because the previous owner had the car repainted and restriped at some point. The car is metallic black, I'd guess it was resprayed 5 years ago or so.

After I pulled it off, I could see the lines where the pinstripes used to be (guess the rest of the paint has faded). I used 2.5 + orange cutting pad, SSR 1.0, + orange cutting pad, AIO, and Natty's, and the marks are barely noticeable. If I look closely, I think I can see the lines, but when I step a few feet away, the car looks great.

One thing to note about your Celica is that your front and rear bumper are more than likely single stage paint. You can test the panels and check. So make sure you keep those panels nice and waxed if they are single stage.

Toyota and other makes have released vehicles where the main body has clear but the bumpers have single stage, some people test the hood and fenders when checking for clear but the bumpers are often forgotten, but are in reality the major two areas where some manufactures used sinlge stage paint. (A note for good car keeping).

A bit off topic, but, I've noticed many of the pictures of cars detailed here that they have no pinstriping. I like the ps on my Honda. Are people removing the ps because it's a p.i.t.a. to detail?
