Saab 900SE Turbo - Mini Detail Meet in Bonnie Dundee

There was a mini-detailing meet held in Dundee, Bonnie Scotland today - a very small meeting with four of us, and a car to detail - but it was a great day, and is always nice to meet up with fellow detailers and share tips.

The start of the day consisted of a demonstration by and AutoGlym trade represntative of some of the Autoglym trade range, there were some good products but I didn't really feel they were geared towards detailers, as they said that they don't really cater for machine polishing of cars for one... Some nice products though, espeically the Powermax3 TFR, Autogloss Rinse and Glass Polish.

Anyways, after the demo, we had the afternoon to prepare the Saab for owner collection.

Here are the swirls on the Saab before hand... Severe swirls from a car wash regular...

Unsure of the hardness of Saab paint, we went for the good practice of low aggression first - I was suspicious that being GM, it may be similar to Vauxhall paint - soft - so we first of all hit a test patch with Menzerna Final Finish (the cerami-clear designed ones, great excuse to test them out!) using a 6" Meguiars W8006 Yellow Polishing Pad. The area before:

and the area after...

We were all surprised by just how many of the defects the Final Finish removed, me in particular. The method I used on the test patch was one pass at speed 3 to spread, no pressure, one pass at speed 5 slow with no pressure then two passes at speed 6, one with no pressure and one with medium pressure. Buffed off with a microfibre towel. With time not really on our side, and the impressive way in which FF was dealing with the swilrs (Only much deeper scratches remained) it was decided to geive the car Final Finish all over using Meguiars W8006 six pads, then follow with FMJ as a sealent. With two PCs and four people, the polishing stage was quickly completed...

With the passenger side down, Chris masked off the bumper at the back while Craig inspected the finish over a sausage roll!

Many thanks to Bryan for lunch - great rolls, I only had one! Honest!!

With the paintwork polished, it was then checked under the Brinkmann:

Some deeper scratches remain, but I was extremely impressed with the Menzerna Final Finish! Excellent product, I'd recommend it - finished very well indeed and has good bite for defect removal on soft paint, so would easily remove micromarring from PGC.

Bryan did a lot of work on the interior - AG Interior Shine on the door cards, carpets, dashboard (too shiny for me, but the rep did half so we had to do the other half), and the leather seats. Bryan then followed up with the AG Leather Cleaner on the leather seats to replenish the leather oils.

The wheels were cleaned with AG Non-Acidic Wheel Cleaner followed by Powermax3 TFR (worked well), and the tyres were done with TyreSheen. The wheels were waxed with P21S. Exterior trim was done with AG Bumper Care, the glass with Meguiars Glass Cleaner Concentrate, followed by AG Glass Polish. The car was then rolled out into the sunlight for the final pics:

All in all, I had a great day, espeically enjoyed testing out the Final Finish polish, more so than the AG demonstrations actually though they were very interesting too! Only annoying thing was the Saab immobiliser which comes on if the doors are left open with the ignition off for a wee bit - caused a heart stopping moment after the engine was cleaned!!

Anyways, thanks for viewing another long KG thread! :lol
