S100 over SG a bad combo?

I've been using Sonnex gloss shampoo, 3M IHG and Blitz wax on my cars for a few years but I'm looking for something better/different. So, I'd like to try Klasse AIO, SG and S100, but I have heard from one knowledgeable detailing enthusiast that S100 or any carnuba wax over the SG dulls the Klasse finish. I've heard it's better to use AIO and then a carnuba wax then to apply wax on top of the SG. I'd like to know if anyhow has experienced this.

By the way, this looks like a great forum.

Nope, it won't dull the finish, it will really enhance it. SG will not bond to the carnauba, so definitely don't do AIO, S100, SG. Do wash, clay, AIO, SG 3x, then top w/ S100 as you feel necessary~ every month probably. That will give you a great looking Benz and Bimmer! Oh and BTW- Welcome to Autopia.

Nah. That's not the case. I've been topping SG with carnauba for 2 years and I have never seen anything but spectacular results. Definately consult more experts before you take the opinion of one person. I don't think I've ever read here that someone has had an experience like that topping SG with carnauba.

I think the Klasse SG Application Success Rate is gettin smaller because peeps dont know how to use it correctly and give up on it. It takes a little more effort but the results are spectacular when applied correctly and it applys very easy and comes off the same way if done right.

Amen, brother. :bow That is exactly the problem. SG isn't like your run of the mill carnauba wax that just slaps on and wipes off. Its pretty tricky to get the hang of it. It takes 2 or 3 applications before you get it down. The first time I used it I ended up driving all over town for half the day thinking it looked great and then I noticed that I only got about half of it buffed off because I used way too much. lol Once you get one good coat on then you are addicted and the effort is worth the results. Its really not that hard once you get the hang of it.

Also, the once famous Klasse SG-Souveran combo isn't as rampantly popular as it used to be, and new products are catching people's attention.

Lots of people have topped Klasse SG with various pure waxes with no problem, and often like the results better. :up

Personally I like the combo a lot. I have no complaints about how it looks, the SG does minor filling/hiding (that lasts!), and the wax on top is a sacrificial layer that is easy to reapply often if you want.

Hey, this forum really works. Thanks for the responses. I'm going to give the 3M IHG, AIO, SG, S100 combo a try. How's that for acronyms. I'll report back when I'm done.

Any suggestions for application techiques/timing/usefulness of layering would be greatly appreciated.

Paperchase: I believe the AIO will remove the IHG. IMO you will not gain much from using IHG followed by AIO.

Welcome and good luck.

I've been using Klasse since last fall, and absolutely love it. Here's a pic of my husband's truck with 3 coats of SG, topped with several coats of wax. We're both happy with the way it looks.

I try to alternate between S100 and Souveran, since both our vehicles are dark. Like others have already said, though, once you top SG with carnauba, you can't go back to the SG. Make sure you have as many coats of SG as you are planning on. Follow the link to the Klasse instructions. Lots of Klasse users here (including me) have tons of luck using the 1wet MF, 1 dry MF removal method. Be patient, go very thin, and make sure you let the SG cure before adding layers or beginning to top.

Oh yeah, and I just snapped that pic of the truck... it's dirty, I think I'm gonna go wash it. :D

S100 over SG is the combo that I currently use on my F150 (red). I was using SG only cause I really liked the sharp look (reflections)that it would give. I think the S100 now gives the paint more depth on dark cars that have SG already.

For my 4Runner (Silver) I have been using just AIO and SG x3. I really like the look of SG only on light colored cars.

Not that I have much to add here....but don't you mean "SONAX" and not "SONNEX" ??

I could be wrong though :chuckle:

I absolutely hate AIO/SG/S100 on my sapphire blue Miata. The Klasse twins already had an awesome look on it and adding S100 markedly degraded how it looked. It came out the same with my cousin's Mini Cooper. Klasse/S100 and metallic blue don't mix. It dulled the dazzling look of the K twins. It didn't look as wet, didn't add depth. Only plus was that S100 hides swirls well.

I like S100 SEC and S100 wax on the same Miata. Much better looking combo.

I like Klasse twins and S100 on black but it is a distant second to AIO/Souveran.

I love AIO and S100 on silver. This is where S100 is in its element. My favorite on silver!

AIOx1

SGx3

S100x2 is the way to go. I have been using this combo for about 5 years now. This combo is killer on silver. The only thing better on black would be Souveran. But I woulndt buy both. I try other combo's but I always come back to this. Get some S100 and try it. You can thank us latter with a round of BEERS! :xyxthumbs

Can I ask a question on this subject that I hope will not appear stupid!

If you decided to apply AIO/ SGx3 then Souveran or another wax product, what would the future maintanence programme be?

Presumably having applied the AIO and SG then you would just keep applying Souveran etc as and when it was felt neccassary?

If not, then would you apply further coats of AIO over the previously applied SG and if so would you have to ensure removal of the wax product previously applied for the new coating of AIO/SG to cure, etc, effectivley.

If, however, future applications of AIO/SG are not required then presumably you end up with large amounts of these products that will hardly, if ever, be used again?

Rather than start a new thread and don't mean to step on anyones toes, BUT, does the Klasse SG add any depth or gloss to the finish? Durability is not an issue with me as the car is just a weekend driver, garage kept. I'm I ok just using the AIO and P21S (that's what I have). If the SG adds some benefit other than durability, then I would go with it. As allways, your thoughts are greatly appreciated. THANKS

rwh,

I get excellent results with the Klasse twins on all the cars I've used it on. The klasse/S100 combos seem to work better in certain applications but I don't get universally excellent results from it. See my post above.
