Long time listener, first time caller...you know the routine.
Anyway, while picking up another jar of S100 wax I decided to pick up their Detail & Wax product and give it a shot. Its advertised as adding a finishing touch to a wash or to act almost as a waterless wash by removing road grime, rain film, etc. between washes.
I have to say that I don't see the value in this particular product. First off, it's delivered in an aerosol spray can which is kind of annoying, but probably necessary given the consistency of the product. When you spray it on it's kind of thick. It's seems to be a very dense and thin foam, not like some wheel cleaner foams or shaving cream, the best way I could describe it is that it sprays almost like that fake snow spray that people used to use on windows at Christmas time. The next step is to wipe/buff the product out. There is quite a bit of drag and it actually took some effort to buff it out. It's nothing like buffing out S100 wax.
I was using this on a 3 day old s100 wax job and the vehicle was still very clean. Even though it's advertised as being able to take road grime off between washes, I would really hesitate to use this on a vehicle that even just had light dust on it. I think you would be asking for swirls given the amount of drag/effort involved and there's no slickness like you get with a QD. As mentioned previously, the other advertised use is after a wash to give a final touch or shine. Here again, I didn't find any value. Once I buffed the product out there was no increase in wettness of the look or brightness/clarity in the shine. You could possibly use it to spot wax after using a harsh cleaner when removing bugs, tar, etc. but the S100 paste wax is honestly easier to apply and remove than this stuff.
I'm disappointed because I was hoping that this would be more like a QD. Given that it's too hard to remove to be used as a spot detailer and harder to use for spot waxing than the S100 paste wax, I can't find any reason to keep it in my arsenal. Oh well, all in the name of science!
I would be interested to hear from others who have used this product, particularly if you've found a good use for it that I have overlooked. I also want to thank ScottWax for his great S100 wax pictures. Those pictures were the sole reason that I started using S100 to begin with.
