RX-8 Aluminum Strake Repair...???

I purchased a set of used Mazda OEM Strakes For my RX-8

knowing that one of them had a problem.

The price was cheap so I thought I'd try to clean them up.

After using some Brasso it cleaned-up pretty well.

There is still some etching and the clear-coat was removed.

I can smooth them out a little more with some sanding and polishing.

Anyone know what I should use to protect / replace the clear-coat?

If you can get it to a near factory finish, you can always recoat it with aerosol clear.

BTW, are you the same person as MDRX8?

Any over-the-counter spray clear coat will work???

The reason I ask is because I've tried (in the past) to Pain aluminum and when the

paint dried, it rubbed right off when I wiped it with a dry cotton cloth...

MDRX8 and I are two different people...
