Dear all, (This actually happen to my friend and I am helping him post this here)

My car happen to have a long scratch along the left side of the passager door. It been there for the past 2 months. Just realised that there rust forming along the scratch. Somebody tell me to re-spray the door if not the rush will attack the whole door.

Any ideas on how to solve the problem. Need to re-spray? Or any other chemical that can help to stop the rust?

Thank

:)

By the way ... I have heard of RUST getting UNDER the paintwork ... is it possible?

If it is ... How will my friend know if the rust has gone under the paintwork and is too late to save?

I only know that if bubbles start popping out in the paintwork .. it means that rust has gotten to it .. any other signs? :D

I don't know how to tell if rust is under the paint except for the bubbles or peeling it up either. Good question.

As far as the rust in the scratch goes I do have a suggestion for that. I use something like ScratchX to get rust off. That will work like a charm for the scratch. I've used AIO for rust as well. I get faster and more reliable results with something like GS27 or ScratchX though.

Interesting tip Jngr. Never thought of that before! :xyxthumbs

I would have suggested something conventional like a rust converter, but the next time this comes up I might try my ScratchX instead.

After basically polishing out the rust I assume cleaning the scratch with solvent or alcohol then painting it with touchup paint would be prudent?

Just apply ScratchX to a towel and rub it on the scratch in the direction it runs. It will clean the rust right out. I've used it that way a hundred times. If you are going to touch it up then you'll need sandpaper, of course, but for now the ScratchX will clean it up nicely. :xyxthumbs
