is there a difference between the LHR 21 E and the LHR 21ES? just to be sure I don't buy the wrong one :D

and can you use regular 6" pads on the rupes 21?

There is a 75E, 12E, 15ES, and a 21ES... but there is not a 21E that I am aware of?

You can use 6.5" pads on the 21ES with the included backing plate, or you can purchase the smaller backing plate and use 5.5" pads (which is what I prefer).

so 6" pads won't work... damn then I have to buy a extra backingplate too. Or just go for the 15mm?

the pad would be the exact size of the backing plate, so I would say it's not "suggested". It doesn't give you much room for error of the backing plate contacting the vehicle.

I'd go for the 21! The backing plate size and pads are secondary.

6" pads should actually be 6.5". That will give you enough coverage.
I have a 21 with a 5" backing plate. For me that's a better way to go.
Why you ask? The 21 is about the "throw" and I prefer the 5.5" pads.

IMHO The 21 is a better machine for doing corrections than the 15.
Maybe it's just me but I seem to get a lot of "swirl jobs". so for me...
It's the best of both worlds...& yes, I use the Kevin Brown washer mod.

no, meant 6" :) but a 5" BP will be to small then for 6" pads?

Yes, a 5" backing plate would be too small for 6 - 6.5" pads...
Part of the pad on this arrangement would not have any backing plate behind it, so it would not be working really good against your paint..

For my needs, I hardly ever use the bigger 6" backing plate and pads anyway.. And I use strictly Rotary Power..

The 5.5" pads are much easier to use and control, and with any of the random orbitals, you want pad rotation as much as possible.. A smaller pad will rotate easier hopefully making your correction faster...

Good luck with this !

Pretty much every setup I have part of the pad doesn't have backing plate behind it. I'm guessing 1/4" all the way around.

thanks guys... Guess Wolf's will have to change their pad sizes then :D
really wanted to try their alpha and omega pads, as it would simplify a lot :D
better order a 5 inch backingplate then, as most of my pads are 5.5 now

anyone had any problems with his Rupes 21 with a 5 inch backingplate with the stability? heard you loose warranty when you change backingplates

it might be me or the 21 I was using but I felt the 21 with a 5" bp was not as smooth as a 15 with a 5" bp.

There is no LHR21 E, just the ES.
Yes you can use 6 inch pads, but you would need to switch to the 5-inch backing plate.
