Rumors of new product from Meguiars

So I was talking to my local Meguiars distributor today and he was telling about some revolutionary new products they've been working on.

He said they have something in the works that will completely eliminate the need for rotary polishers.

Whatever they're working on is supposed to be able to blow the surbuff pad/105/KBM combo out of the water.

It sounds quite interesting. Unfortunately, he didn't know a whole lot about it. He did say that it could be released within the next year, but didn't know for sure.

Anyone else heard anything about this?

At some point over the next decade or so, paint and product technology will advance such that traditional "detailing" will be redefined. The general public is becoming more aware and interested in keeping their cars looking great, and that will translate to better paint and products. Infiniti had a false start with their scratch shield paint, but I expect to see (much improved) versions of the same in the future.

what does that have to do with this thread?

About the same thing as your post does...

Can't wait to hear more about this new product, guessing it will be a 2011 release.

I hear its more of a middle of this year release.

At least thst is what has been said on MOL.

I always was under the impression that they introduced all of their new products at SEMA.

Whenever it is I'll be sure to pick it up from AutoGeek when they have it in stock.

General public more aware and interested in keeping their cars looking great..

Around here, i'm finding just the opposite. Swirls are accepted as being normal and par for the course. Most just speed wash at a gas station and call it day.

Busy schedules and both parents/married couple working leaves for little time for the General public to spends hour(s) on the weekend detailing their 2+ cars in the average household.

Curious to see what Meguiars has been working on...

Considering the vast majority of people still use a sponge to wash, chamois to dry with a single bucket was in direct sunlight and they or may not be using dish soap.. and their idea of paint prep is simply wash and put a coat of Wax on it..

Us 1% are not the norm, by far. My neighbours still think i'm nuts using something like QEW or now ONR!

For the life of me, i can get my neighbour to stop claiming that a Glaze all you need and provides more protection then wax and that he has to put a sealant down or the very least, a nice wax. Yet, he is one of the few I know that actually looks after his SUV. I can't even imagine starting to tell/inform them about my DA and how it's nothing like the crappy RO.. then when my Makita they run for the hills!

So if Meguiars is able to bridge the cap between us 1% and create a truly unique polish that doesn't require a buffer... then they'll have a winner on their hands.

wow, can't wait to find out what the products are. i'll have to ask my local detail shop (pretty close with the megs reps) if they know of anything. interesting...

with new products constantly evolving, it's not suprising that the DA is getting more and more effective these days. who knows what the future holds/brings...

They have released new products before in the middle of the year,

there is a thread called "Dodge Superbee" Part 2 where Mike Stoops confirms it.

Why would I care where you order it from?

Meguiar's loves to say their stuff is the best. IMHO they're not that great.

When I can get a compound to correct like M105 and leave such a nice finish...plus pass a 5x straight IPA wipedown. I'd call that the best. No other compound that I have ever used meets all of those requirements.

I'm not trying to get anyone to divulge any top secret information or anything.

Just curious as to whether or not the rumors hold any water....thats all.

I love Megs. products and I'm rather excited to see what they have in store :)

I'm not 100% sure I would agree with this. In all fairness the need for rotary polishers has already been eliminated. I can remove 1500 grit sanding scratches from cured paint with a DA and the right combination of pad, buffing liquid, and technique. It doesn't mean the DA is the best choice in every situation, and I still like to use a rotary, but modern abrasive technology has already changed the game.

At the end of the day enthusiasts will be able to achieve professional results in less time, and open minded professionals will hopefully be as good as the enthusiast :D
