Rubbing compound question

P-I-M-P I AM SIMPLY
I got in a little arguement wiht one of my friends who states that rubbing compound has wax in it. Does any rubbing compound at all have wax in it. Im trying to prove him wrong cuz why would they put wax in rubbing compound?
 
You are going to have to get a pro to definitively answer that but so far as I know you are right. There is no wax in a rubbing compound. Some rubbing compounds do contain wax however. but not many. One that comes to mind is a 3M Marine product but I can`t think of the name exactly. So once it contains wax it is not defined strickly as a rubbing compound because it is a 2 step product.

Off the top of my head, I can't think of any rubbing compounds that contain waxes.......... but I suppose it's possible.

Now, there are a number of swirl removers (hiders) that contain some wax. Maybe your friend thinks that any product used for swirl removal is a compound? :dunno
 
To my knowledge there is not wax in compounds, they are designed to cut not protect as you would think with wax. I could be wrong but I don't think so.

Check out 3m Marine Fiberglass Restorer and Wax. Product #3M8001. Described by 3M as "unique formulation combines a rubbing compound with a special blend of waxes".
 
Thanks will do I have a local paint store that handles all the 3M line.

I would have to say that as a general rule compounds do not contain wax. I think that is what's being asked here.

You might be able to put AIO in this class its desihned to cut and protect at the same time.

yup i use it all the time on our boats....that and the step lighter...i think its cleaner and wax or somthing.....beads nicely so its got to have alil protective power to it.
