my buddy has this 04 silverado SS that has rock hard clear. i think it's the same as vette clear. i've tried ssr2.5 on 5.5" low profile orange pad via PC, but nothing happened. he his this 3m liquid rubbing compound he wants to use, but i say no. i think all it will do is swirl by hand or PC. what do you guys think we should do?

If you want to stick with SSR2.5 I recommend going with a yellow pad (assuming you're using LC). Otherwise, try the rubbing compound on one spot and see what happens. You could also step up to SSR3. Bottom line - if you want to attack those swirls you're going to end up doing a step-down round of polishing anyway.

FWIW the majority of vehicles I detail are GM trucks. The first time I see them, SSR2.5/orange isn't strong enough. My go-to has become Menzerna SIP with either orange or yellow...and in the case of nasty sections, I'll even use PG w/ yellow.

Good luck & have fun...
