Rubber and Plastic Parts

This is my first post, but I've been reading the messages and there's a lot of great info here. I frequent the 928 boards and thought I'd mention this tidbit I picked up along the way.

For those black plastic parts: Seems that a lot of manufacturers make good re-coloring products, but some concourse winner recommended using black wax shoe polish for the final coat -- when buffed, it apparently brings plastic parts to life.

Eric,

Yes Black Wax shoe polish can be use to bring black parts back to life. The only problem is that that it will wash off in a short period of time, and if you apply too much, when it washes off it can make a mess on your paint. It is O.K for a garage queen show car, but I would not recommend it on a daily driver. For the daily driver use a good water based rubber protectant on the black trim and you should be fine.

Hey Eric welcome to the group! :)

I've used Meguiar's #40 Vinyl and Rubber Cleaner/ Conditionerwith good results however, it is very important to wipe off as much excess as possible. Then I will rinse it off with the hose then wash the car. The rinsing always raises a residue which isn't a problem to deal with when I have my wash bucket handy. I'm going to try some Mother's Back to Black this weekend. My testing guinea pig will once again be the wife's minivan. I'll let you know if it is worthwhile.

Thanks for the tip on the black wax shoe polish.

Ok, so I need to try something to get these minor nicks and scratches out of my bumper. The scratches are minor, but they are quite obvious when the car is clean, as the marks become quite visible. Any recommendations?

If you have plastic body panels or parts and are a Klasse user, I would Klasse all the way.

The AIO does a great job of cleaning it up, making it blacker, and the SG seals it up, giving it a slightly smoother shine, so nice.

I used it on my wifes Expedition as the rubber trim below the windows is about 3 inches thick. I also used on my 540 with excellent results. You have to be careful not to use too much though. A little goes a long way. It has lasted about three months without additional application and still looks good.

Back to black seems to work good at first. But seems to wear off fast.I just picked up some Klasse and i'm gonna try it out this weekend.I've heard good things about it.
