Roush Mustang, Acura TL, Infiniti G35x, and Accord Details

To kick it off, a 1997 Honda Accord Special Edition belonging to a very loyal client of mine. I have done a lot of details for him and his friends. He just picked this car up to daily drive while his white S2000 (yep, detailed it recently) rests during the ugly days.

The car has about 64,000 miles on it and was never garaged. The surface contamination was very low but there were a fair amount of swirls and etched water spots which led to the dull before appearance. My finals were:

-QEW (rain rinsed it :))
-Zaino Clay with S+W lube
-Hi-Temp Extreme Cut via rotary and LC yellow cutting pad @ 1500 rpm
-Optimum Polish via rotary and and LC red finishing pad @ 1200 rpm
-IPA wipedown
-Zaino Z2 Pro by hand

-CD-2 Engine Detailer in wells
-Turbo Wax Tire Gel on tires and trim
-FK1 #425 on glass

Next up, a 2006 TL. This is the second time I've detailed this car since new (first at 3k, now at 9k). The owner is very enthusiastic about having this car exceptionally clean. The Zaino was still very potent from when I detailed it over 4 months ago. He wanted the minor marring and swirls polished out and to have it looking "like it's supposed to". My finals were:

Interior
-Kids & Pets to clean
-Zaino Z16 to dress everything
-Zaino Z8 to clean/protect wood and silver trim, windows, and mirrors

Exterior
-Zaino Z7 Wash
-Zaino Clay with Z7 as lube
-Menzerna FPII via rotary and LC white polishing pad @ 1500 rpm
-Meguiar's #21 sealant x 2

-CD-2 Engine Detailer in wells
-Zaino Z16 on tires
-Flitz to polish exhaust

Next up, a G35x hit and run in the University parking lot (grrr). Luckily there was no dent, just paint transfer. My finals were:

-QEW
-Overspray clay on paint transfer
-Sand transfer lightly with 2000 grit
-Hi-Temp Extreme Cut via rotary and LC yellow cutting pad @ 1500 rpm (transfer only)
-Optimum Car Polish via rotary and LC red finishing pad @ 1200 rpm (transfer only)
-OCW

-Z16 on tires

And I will leave you with a nice Roush Mustang :drool. I QEW'd it, hit it with a layer of OCW, then the tires got Z16, wells - CD-2 Engine Detailer...

Questions/Comments, please feel free...

great job sean!! I love that meguiars #21 sealant. what are your thoughts on that. Also what is your method with the HT Xtreme cut as far as how much polish you use per panel?

Thanks

Greg

Sean you crazy guy, you must have been so excited to post that you double posted lol.

Greg

Sean the Mustang is Sweet, Beautiful work as always. Are the cars all detailed from home?

Mr. Smith, you're an animal!

The TL interior looks very nice. Is there a reason for selecting Z16 over Z9/10? #21 looks great on the paint too. I've never had much luck with #21 durability, but it does look nice on metallic.

How did you like the LC red/white pads?

Great job on all the cars.
The interior on the Acura looks amazing... Does the guy even sit in it

They all look great, but that Acura really stands out to me as the most impressive. Fantastic job!

I agree. I could see the flakes as if the paint wasn't even there.:D

Thanks everyone :D.

Greg: #21 is a very nice sealant. It is pretty similar (application and removal) to Zaino although I think it streaks a touch more. Durability will be its largest battle, but the look is very nice (deep and wet).

I really like Hi-Temp Extreme cut (review coming this weekend or so). I usually put a half dollar sized blob per 2'x2' section and polish with 3 total over lapping passes per segment of paint. At this point, the polish is almost transparent and with a damp MF, it removes easily...no dusting. What is your method?

Joe: The Mustang and G35 were done in CT; TL and Accord in NY. I travel home (parents) about 2 weekends out of the month to cater to my Long Island clients. While up at school in CT the rest of the time, I am able to give my CT clients the attention needed.

John: I wanted to try something new (read: never satisfied). Z16 worked out very nicely. It applies pretty evenly with an MF applicator, leaves a nice low-medium gloss sheen, dries 100%, and "firms" up the leather which helps with prevention of wrinkling.

I've heard some stories with excellent durability with #21 so I'm giving it a go (crosses fingers).

The LC pads with the multi-tonal foam work very nicely. I'm unsure if its *that* large of a difference between the standard pads, but it may be due to me being a rotary freak for a while.

jay: I got there and thought he was kidding when he wanted it detailed...The whole job took me only about 3 hours.

audi + GTI: You have to give the owner credit for that. He takes EXCELLENT care of that car and it shows. This is how the car looked after a 4.5 month winter (since I polished and Zaino'd it)...

and we are talking about soft Honda paint here :).

Great work! I have a friend that works for Cornett Machine shop inSomerset KY. They do a lot of machining for Roush Racing. Jack Roush gave Red Cornett a Roush Mustang built special for Red. Beautifull Mustang! And you know it would be worth a mint having Jack Roush personaly having it built for you and handing you the keys. Can you imagine?

Great work as usual! I noticed you use "Kids and Pets" quite a bit, can you tell me more about it?

Dolan

Dolan: Sure...

Kids & Pets is an all purpose cleaner mainly for fabrics and interior materials. It has an anti-bacterial agent in it as well as an odor killer. Basically I spray it generously on all surfaces out of the sun and allow to penetrate for 30 seconds. From there, I buff it off with an MF towel.

For carpets I would do the same, but if really bad, use a dedicated solution afterwards. Then extract it.

It costs about ~$5 for 32 ounces and is available at Target.

Thanks for the info. I'll have to stop by Target and pick some up.

I was using a 6" line and polishing @1500 rpm. I was getting some hopping and skipping, my guess is to much polish.

Greg

Greg: Try a blob the size of a half dollar per 2x2' square. I had hopping/skipping problems with the line too. I find it dries up on the panel too quick. When its a blob, it spreads over the surface really well. Give 'er a shot.
