Rotary Pads

I just got a new Makita rotary, and am debating which pads to buy. I have the 5" and 6" backing plate, and currently have several of the 6.5" Meguiar's pads, as well as a few of the 6.5" CCS pads. I am wanting to buy some 7.5" pads (would prefer to not go any larger than that), and have been looking at the 7.5" CCS pads, as well as some of the Edge pads. Any recommendation on which 7.5", or maybe 8" foam pads are the best to go with?

Stick with the 6" pads, the larger pads are harder to control.

Which brand? I notice the CCS 6.5" pads seem to only mention DA use, not rotary.

I use Excel Propel (now Erasure). I'm sure someone else will chime in on the Lake Country offerings.

nope, no problem...you can use the 4" pads on the rotary as well, with the correct backing plate...it just matters what is most comfortable to you...those are the pads you should be using!!!

Thanks - My PC is set up for 6.5" pads, so I would prefer to buy the same size, and be able to use them all for either machine.

Thanks for everyone's help - I guess I will go take advantage of the 20% off sale at Autogeek.

Yup, I have multiple pad sizes, but if you can simplfy your pads to one size, it will be easier to switch b/w the two machines.

What backing plate do you have? Does it have a centering button? If so the CMA pads I mentioned have a center hole in the velcro for perfect centering.

I use CCS 5.5" pads. I find the orange pad hard to control. The less pressure you put on it the better. I want to try the green pad. I like the 5.5" pads because they are easier to control compared to larger ones and you're focusing on a smaller area which means better results.

Do you have a link to the 5.5" pads?

No problem. Let me know what you think about the orange pad. The stiffer the pad the harder it is for me to control. The yellow pad is actually easier to control then the orange because its softer. But if a car is so bad that it needs yellow, then I just go to wool. I think the green pad might be the way to go instead of the orange pad.

I have the Meguiar's W64 backing plate, as well as the flexible Lake Country backing plate - both 5" (well, the LC plate is 4.75").
