Rotary Holograms with Opt , but not w/ DACP

Does anyone have an explanation as to why i got Rotary Holograms with Optimum Compound, and not DACP ?

I recently did my truck using

Opt. w/ rotary @ 1000 to 1200 rpm ,

orange pressure pad,

and it left holograms. :-(

I then tried Optimum polish

orange pad @ 1200 to remove, a

nd it did nothing.. :-(

I then tried this.

yellow cutting pad,

@ 1200 rpm using DACP,

and all the holograms are gone !!! :D

However, I really would prefer Optimum over DACP, as dacp just throws sling everywhere.. (even with a mild spray)

But as i was going through the process today.. I thought to myself..

If one day, a customer sees these holograms, they are thinking that i'm "ruining their finish" and won't have their confidence, even though I'd be able to remove them with a yellow cutting pad and dacp or by pc, orange pad and ssr series.

So the best thing would be NOT to have holograms in the first place right ?

As what's the point of a rotary, if you gotta go over it again using a diff process or use a second machine ?

which takes this conversation full circle again as to why holograms appeared with Opt compound and NOT with DACP ?

I think rotary with DACP is the clear winner. I'll follow up to this post in the Click N Brag with full pics.. in the upcoming days..

I just wanted to start pooling some answers, so i can sleep at night.. cuz this really bothers me.

thanks for reading

Here are the pics..

Like i said, THANK GOD FOR DACP, as it was able to "undo" all my Holograms caused by Optimum Compound.

Some of the Swirls :

The yellow area indicates the Optimum area done. The Red indicates , simply a swirled yet to be done with any product.

Thanks to DACP, I managed to save the Day !!!

Rotary with Optimum Compound and Optimum Polish

Needed more product:

I was NOT using enough product. Added more Opt. Compound to my pad, 2 thicker circles as discussed in another thread and voila ! Unfortunately, it had a lot more sling like DACP, but worth it in the end. Nothing good old painter's drapes won't solve in the future.

Needed more Speed:

Furthermore, i found that by kicking up the speed from 1200, to 1400rpm was WAAAaaaaaaaaaaay more effective as well.. really broke the Optimum down a helluva lot better. I can't tell the day and night result from 1000 to 1400 can do.. Within minutes.. poof ! alcohol/h20 wipe, and swirls/scratches gone !

Overall:

I am sticking to DACP over Optimum. why ?

DACP uses less product,

spreads and works in better

gives a polish without adding a second bottle to the mix

Thanks for your help all..

I have found that 1000-1200 rpm is pretty much useless when removing swirl marks. I don't usually work below 1500 rpm, and I usually use the green pad during light swirl removal, although I have used the orange pad and OP at 1500 rpm with swirlfree results. I would then go over that with VM and a green pad to produce a very shiny and swirl free finish. This my take on things:

1. Use a polishing pad (e.g green propel/sonus or the like)

2. Kick it up a notch. OP requires heat to work really well. I think it is similar to Megs products which require heat to activate the diminishing abrassives that remove swirls and produce a nice shiny finish. I'm sure there will be some pros commenting very soon!

Check your work afterwards to make sure dacp isn't covering up your swirls. Dacp (#83)has some oils that can fill swirls if not worked enough. Try OP with some different pads at different speeds. There's learning curve with every product , take some time to play with OP I think you'll like the results. Good luck :buffing:

From the looks of your pictures you didn't need the compound just the polish. I find that the polish and the orange pad do just fine.

Rollman - I'm meticulous enough to check and see that for sure.

Dent's & Details - I'd just prefer one bottle (dacp) as opposed to 2 with the Optimum method

I also forgot to mention the fact that to fully remove the OP remnants requires the use of QD. the first couple of times I used the product I thought I was hologramming the sh** out of the panel. I soon learned that if I S&Gd the panel and then wiped, the panel was flawless.

The major advancement of Optimum is the working time and the "true" results. I do not use Meg's for this reason. I found that it gave false results. I am not saying that it didn't work, just that the oils worked against me.

From the picture i would say that OPP would be enough.
