rotary extensions

i was wondering if anyone here have used an extension when polishing or compounding? i have seen some people with these extensions and it looks like it gives you more clearance when using them on side mirrors. i decided to make some and offer them to members here too. i will post pics. and prices in the members only forum. take a look and let me know. thanks

I am not looking for something like this. I must admit that I had not thought of this either. The long shaft pictured certainly has an interesting look.

Fear and trepidation are my first thoughts. Have you used this long a shaft and controlled the wheel in tight spots with complete safety? I know that I have had an accident or two using a rotary. One must employ steady hand and major concentration when using that particular attachment, it would seem?
 
Well, why could you use this? i personally have not gotten used to the rotary being on top of the pad. i feel that the machine is blocking my view when i am polishing. With the extensions it lifts the machine away from the pad and i can see my work better. i know others have used smaller backing plates (bp) with the extensions when correcting paint under roof racks. These extensions allow you to get closer and right on the paint with smaller size bp and pads. One other thing the can help is that you only need to have one machine when you have extensions. why well you put on an extension to reach those areas you normally use the smaller machine. Sometimes having the machine away for the backing plate allows you to maneuver around side mirrors better then with the machine right on the backing plate too.
 
If you are using a rotary mach and backing plat, you could use a double sided adapter. It has 5/8 x 11 threads both male and female
