I am also new to using a DA and the pads. As stated above, get a 5" backing plate and use 5.5" pads. That's what I have and I've now done 3 cars with it. The 5.5" pads just feel right with it, any bigger and you start to lose rotation. The pad needs to spin to properly correct, not just oscillate.

I have a couple 5.5" CCS pads and like them. But I've also read that a lot of guys are starting to move to the microfiber cutting/polishing pads. I haven't tried them myself but plan on picking them up when I need new pads

Get the Megs 5in microfiber pads for cutting. Then get a few different color lake country flat pads for polishing

I love this combo

I also use the same Megs 5" MF discs with Rupes Bigfoot & M100...works GREAT!

I'm also a big fan of Meguiars M101 with the PC and the Megs MF cutting discs.

Be sure to keep your discs clean. The recommended method is compressed air.
I personally clean the disc after each section with a Safe Scrub Bug & Tar Pad

I agree Air is the way to go when cleaning the MF discs but, if air is unavailable the the brush os an option.

Thats the first time i have heard about using the bug and tar pad. How are the results?

I've been using the bug sponge for years. It's a lot less aggressive on the disc than a conditioning brush.
Results...They are VERY close to using compressed air. I rarely have availability to using compressed air.

Thank everyone for responding and i really look forward to being a part of this forum!! I decided to go with the 5.5inch smartpads. I ordered every color so there should be no reason for any problem. Thanks again!!!
