So I`ve spent the past 2 months reading up on a few forums to gain some perspectives on detailing and the methods. I've also been stacking up on some products that have been getting good reviews. I finally picked up the Meguiars G110 last week and here are the results.
The "guinea pig" is my 10 year old Honda Accord that has been through 10 Canadian winters. Likely never been machine-polished and waxed only occasionally.
BEFORE:
First, I washed the car and clayed it. All the pictures are after the claybar:
This is the hood, notice the washer fluid staining:
A 50/50 of the hood after one pass with the M105. I did about 3-4 passes in all:
Notice the 3 vertical RDS near the middle of this picture:
Polishing procedure was similar to the Kevin Brown method - pads were primed thoroughly with the polish beforehand and decreasing pressure applied with each pass.
M105 with orange 5.5' pad
IPA wipedown
M205 with white 5.5' pad
IPA wipedown
CG EZ creme glaze
Collonite 845 insulator wax
Natty's Blue carnauba wax
M105 has a pretty good learning curve, I would say I got the hang of it after half the car was done. The downside of this method is that I had to use 7 brand new orange pads for the car!
Here are the AFTERS:
It's hard to see in this image, but the 3 vertical RDS from above the gas door are gone!
Money shot:
All in all, I would say I got rid of 90% of swirls on the body of the car, and about 70% of the swirls on the hood. I need to invest in a proper halogen lamp asap!
Thanks for looking and all comments/suggestions welcome!
