I'm faced with trying to help a rock chip situation on the front and hood of a Legacy GT that was caused from winter driving. The chips seem to be all the way to the metal.
I tried touch-up paint, dabbing it as carefully as possible with the end of a paper matchstick. As you probably know, this doesn't help much with the finish being raised or "blotched" looking. I tried quickly sweeping across a few of these with lacquer thinner on a cotton cloth down low on the painted bumper. It seemed to help smooth the blotched look a little and still left some of the color on the chip.
I'm thinking I might be able to carefully do this over all the chips and then after a day of drying, use a buffer and go through a 3-step polish operation to help even everything out.
I know this is probably a repaint situation but I'm trying to find a bandaid until the car is repainted in a year or so.
What are your thoughts? Thanks in advance.
Mick
