Road Tar on the Inside of the Rims

I have two cars that I get on a regular bases, that have road tar on the inside part of the rims. They both drive threw an area that has on going road work.

Its like a bunch of small rocks stuck to the inside part of the rims..I can loosen them up if I get my hand in there.

Anyone have a good solution or release agent that can help?

PB APC
PB S&W
Mineral spirits

What I need is something that will release them with minimal scrubbing, its fairly tight in some areas
 
After doing all that don't you think a jack and a lug wrench would work????

really I would think if the person is that worried..then having you take the tires off and then putting them back on wouldn't be much of a big deal but make sure they are tightened right

Its more about me than him, I want to get it off and haven't hit on what works and why I posted this

Also taking them off the car is way over kill for what is really on there IMO
 
I have used Trutle Wax Bug and Tar Remover (Not the aerosol) the flip top. When I had a white car I drove on an in process road and was dotted to the MAX. Worked well. It does take off ALL LSP!

I wouldn't think it's over kill because what your your going to do is clean and seal the inside of the wheels.. which is what i do....

My own cars yes but this is a monthly detail customer and he would not pay me for that time, plus and this is the big one, I would have to do one rim at a time it would take a few hours with the cleaning included

Anything other than removing them will be a half ass cleaning so if that is what the customer whats fine.

I would explain to him that to do it right the wheels need to be removed.
This is why I would not want to detail other peoples cars on my own I can do what is right and not worry about my time.

It is like the thread you started about doing a detail correct.
This week I cleaned the underside of my daily driver and reapplied undercoating.
I painted the frame and axles and suspension parts with a flat black paint so i will not have any rust.

To me proper car care goes way beyond just shiny paint.
 
They've been putting down a lot of chip-n-seal around the shop so I've seen this a lot lately. I've been using Automagic's Red Hot diluted 1:1 with a stiff bristle nylon brush. If that doesn't work I paint on their Multi Purpose Solvent with a old detail brush and it usually melts away.
