Rigid Shopvac (5hp)... safe on leather & instrument pannel?

Hey guys I'm considering purchasing this product but others have suggested that it may be problematic when using it on leather or around the dash and instrument panel. Anyone thing the strong suction of this thing could damage leather or any part of the interior?

Curious as to the answer of this question as well. When I was vacuuming the fabric, I noticed the suction really pulls the fabric up a lot.

I have that very vac and I have experienced no problems like you describe. However when vacuming heavy pile carpeting it does extract some of the material. I solved this by purchasing the soft bristle attachment, (not included) in order to keep a bit of space between the end of the hose and whatever I am cleaning. After that, no problems at all. Make sure you also pick up the exhaust quieting device, small screen and foam combo thing, that fits over the exhaust vent. It decreases the noise a little but it also prevents the machine blowing hot air with small amounts of particles of dirt around where you are working. i.e. all over the finish of a car.

If it can pull a bit of fabric out, won't it wreak havoc on leather?

I've used this vac on lots of leather with no problem. I picked up the acc. kit LastDetail is talking about. The brush attachment does great on the seams in leather seats. Pick up the commercial hose while you're at it, it'll last a lot longer and is easier to handle.

Good grief...I think you guys are a little too paranoid. As long as you're not scraping the attachment across the leather, how could it possible hurt? I've got a Rigid vac as well and have had no problems vacuuming carpet & leather.

Also keep the nozzle at an angle so that you're not putting direct suction on any surface. It should go without saying, but just in case...

If the vacuum is sucking the fabric/leather, then it will naturally be scraping the leather. I guess holding it an angle will mitigate the problem.
