Review: XMT 180 Paste

So I finally got a chance to try out the XMT 180 wax I've been sitting around on. It was applied over top of a coat of Meg's NXT 1.0

Initial impressions is that this is a nice little wax. Goes on very easy, reminds me a lot of Turtle Wax Platinum Paste in its ease of use, goes on very smoothly. It smells like grapes, so if you like grapes, you'll enjoy it. But if you don't, or you had a bad experience with Nyquil as a child, this is not the wax for you.

It comes off pretty easy, though if you let it stay on too long, just like any other carnauba it will be kinda tough to take off. Not as bad as Meg's #26 which is an indestructible coating, it just gets a little more difficult to take off.

I ran out of light as I was taking the wax off, so I can't really comment on its look. Maybe tomorrow morning I'll get to check it out. Can't comment on beading yet either.

I got it for free at Detailfest, but these little 6 oz containers are $30 if you buy them from Autogeek directly. Not at all a good value IMO, it's a small container and it's very pricey. But they do give them away with kits and packages a lot, so it's not as bad. IMO, it's a nice wax, but it's not amazing, for $30 I can think of several products I would rather use. Pinnacle Signature is only $20 for a slightly larger tub, Mother's Pure Carnauba is way bigger and $10 cheaper, Meg's #26 is larger and cheaper, etc. So overall, I feel like this is a decent, if average wax, at a price point that's too high.

Feel free to share your opinions on it here. Agree, disagree, think I'm an idiot? Let me know!

I haven't used Signature, but I've heard good things about it. I'm assuming that the Signature is slightly better. Some people have said that the signature looks only slightly worse than Souveran.

It needs to be morning so I can see my work already :P

LOL. I hear ya.

I just got finished putting FK 1000 on my SUV, in the garage while it was pouring down rain outside. I'll have to check it out in the morning as well.

I'd like to try the Pink wax from FK, I've heard good things about it. You've gotta let me know how you like the FK1000, it sounds like it's a pretty standard fare sealant, so is it gonna be better then something in a mother's FX or Megs NXT2?

Her car is out in the driveway with only the stupid little lights though, I can't even look at it under some nice garage lighting!

From what I've read about it, it suppose to be one of the best. One of the members here said he likes it as well, if not better than his Zymol Vintage. :shocked

i just tried pink wax. i put down fk 2180 sealant first then two layers of pink wax (let it cure 12hrs between coats). first coat look good. second looked even better (more depth and wetter look and nice glow). as it cures it also gets better looking (takes about 3 days to fully cure). haven't tried the 1000p yet. i be trying that later this summer.

Daylight brought visual treats today. The XMT180 is a very pretty wax, and looks great on my gf's black PT Cruiser. Very good clarity, depth is quite good, and wetness is great. Warmth could be better, but this isn't a super high end wax. Still, I've found other entry level carnaubas to be warmer (like #26).

More to come on durability and beading sooner or later. (probably sooner on beading... it is florida after all)

Nice little review. There really arent many posts about this.

Ive found it to be an easy product to work with, and it gave decent looks.

The smell, I thought, was a bit overpowering. However, I was much more impressed with Nattys Blue than XMT 180.

But its great for those of us who love collecting LSP's :D
