Hello everyone.
I wanted to share my thoughts and feelings with you all after having used the new Edge Shmitt wash mitt.
Aaron very graciously sent me one to try out and I can say I am very excited about this new product. I just happened to be detailing a black VW bug when I got the shmitt so I could think of no better color to test the shmitt out on.
The size is large which is great because you can cover alot of area and cut down your wash time. The foam is also the softest I've ever felt. I really like how the bug scrubber is on the flip side. The car that I was working on had alot of bird poo and other nasty things stuck on it and I wound up using the scrubbing side quite a bit. It was very convenient to be able to twist it to the other side while it was on my hand, scrub and then twist it back and keep going. The fit is nice and snug, but not tight and there is no fear of it slipping off your hand.
The one thing that really impressed me the most about the Shmitt is how much water it saves. I've always used sheepskin mitts to wash with before and on my SUV I've always needed two full gallon sized buckets of wash water to get my car done even with using the foam gun. With the Shmitt I noticed that I still had alot of wash water left over afterwards. On the VW bug I only needed one bucket of wash water and it lasted me the entire wash and I still had half of it left over afterwards. With the sheepskins it soaks up alot of water and soap, but then it drips all over the ground on your way from the wash bucket to the car's paint. With the Shmitt, it soaks up the wash water and soap, but it doesn't drip on the ground, and when you begin to wash it's all there lots of soap and water to lubricate the surface. I had no idea of just how much wash water I was wasting with my sheepskins until I used the Shmitt. High quality car wash soaps are not cheap and had I never used the Shmitt I would have never realized how much product was ending up on the ground wasted. I can see how this wash mitt will save me lots of money in car wash over the years versus the sheepskins. My initial experiences with the Shmitt had me very excited, but all of this is nothing if the Shmitt were not safe on the paint. The black car I was working on was swirl city so i waited until after polishing to reserve my final judgements on the Shmitt. I polished and have washed the car a few times since polishing and I can say that I saw no new swirls from the Shmitt. I scrutinzed the surface before and after and there was nothing there!
I was very very excited about this but I had to give it yet another test to be sure. My SUV has very soft paint and swirls if you look at it wrong, the black car passed the swirl test, but would my SUV pass as well? I used the Shmitt on my car and I am happy to say that I only needed one bucket of wash water to do the entire SUV and after I dried her off I scrutinzed the surface. No swirls to be seen anywhere!
My final thoughts on the Shmitt are that this is an excellent product. I can truly see this wash mitt making sheepskins obsolete. I have used it about 10 times now and it is exactly the same softness and appearance as it was the day it came in the mail. It removes the dirt safely and quickly from the paint. The scrubber is conveniently located for right when you need it. It fits snuggly (even on a woman's hand) and doesn't slip. It does not introduce new swirls and it saves water and wash soap. I'm sure many professional detailers will benefit in cost savings with the Shmitt. The Shmitt excelled in all of the tests I put it through and there is nothing negative that I can say about it. I highly recommend it.
Thank you Aaron for sending me the Shmitt and thank you to everybody else for taking the time to read my review.
