There aren't a lot of Malco users out - but Malco is a large chemical company, they own Presta and they make a ton of stuff. I'm lucky to have a local supplier. OK -Perfex is a medium compound. The test vehicle was a 02 Tahoe, black with heavy water spots etched in the paint, add the fine scratches from the auto car wash and you have a fun day ahead. I used a Makita rotary, Edge 8"yellow and LC 6.5" yellow, both foam. The Edge pad gave me very quick working time, really took out 70-80% of the issues on the first round. Then a quick touch of the pad brush and the pad was like new again. The Perfex turned into fine dust and blew away. Now, the LC pad - working time doubled, it cleaned up, but left a little residue after the pad brush. The LC pad seemed to finish down a little better. Both did the job. I could have kept buffing till all the water spots and swirls were gone, but, the owner said it was buffed before (didn't know how much clear was removed or process used)and he was just interested in a shiney truck, not a show car, and we were both concerned about keeping the clear as thick as possible. I checked the results under flouresent lights and in the sun, no buffer trails, holograms or other issues. Not bad after using yellow cutting pads. Now granted, it wasn't perfect, nor was it supposed to be. But, using the old mil-spec of 4 feet, it looked great. I used the 600-900-1200-1500-900 RPM method of buffing. I topped with Banana Wax and the owner was happy.
Conclusions: I've used Meg's, Optimum, XMT and some Hi-Temp products. I'd say that Perfex is my new favorite. It dusts very slightly but doesn't gum up like some. The working time is just right, I feel Optimum is a little too long, yeah I know I need to cut back on the product - yada yada! Looking back, I could have compounded with a Edge yellow wool and finished with a LC yellow foam and probably got the paint 95% but this job was already a favor for a friend and July in NC ain't no picnic! I bought a quart for $18.95, so price is right in line with most compounds. I also have their Nano Creme Polish that I tried on a small test panal, great polish for light oxidation.
Issues: Malco's web site just plain bites, try to find a local distributor.
And no, I ain't got pic's but I'm giving Brandon1 a sample and he's the picture posting expert so I'll leave that to him.
More Malco reviews to come, stay tuned!
