I recently broke my hose nozzle since it would not turn off after I released the trigger. Smashing it a bit on the ground would fix it temporarily but as you might expect, the nozzle bit the dust eventually. So I decided to check out Walmart and see what sorts of nozzles they had.
That's when I saw the hydromax. It is one of those gimmicky products that allow you to spray soap and wax from your hose and at first I was going to dismiss it as we all know that is no way to really wash your car.
Then I realized, it would be great to hose down the car with soapy water first before washing it with the soap/washmitt. This way, some of the dirt is bound to get washed away and it should be better for the finish overall. It is also useful if it had been raining. Instead of just putting the car away since it is too troublesome to get out the washmitt since the car will be dirty and wet tommorow anyways, you can just pull out the hydromax, put some soap into it and spray it down. Of course you don't want to dry it without giving it a proper wash though.
It only takes a few minutes and your car will definately be cleaner than if you just left the car as it was.
Overall just think of it as a way to put a dilute amount of soap onto your car without touching it...there really are a ton of possibilities. I haven't tried the wax mode and I don't think I ever will..buffing off the car without giving it a proper wash is inviting trouble!
It comes with a quick connect hose thing so you can quickly attach and detach to your hose if you have the proper adapter (hose end not included).
Features:
Basically you pull the hydromax out of the box, fill up the plastic vial with car wash soap, screw it in, and screw your hose into it. Turn on your hose, and turn the dial on the hydromax to either water, soap, or wax. There is no trigger to push so its always full power. There are also several different settings for the water..2 fan modes, a shower, and a couple of jets.
It can take up to 4oz of soap and it doesn't waste your soap too badly either. It really puts down a dilute amount so you dont' need to worry about stripping away your wax either. Just enough to cause some sudsing.
Build quality:
Its made essentially out of plastic, so I would not drop it at all. It would probably break if you dropped it from a good height. But there is no trigger so it should last quite long if you don't drop it first!
Value:
I picked it up for about $22 CDN, which is $15 US thereabouts. For that price it is quite convienient! I see it advertised on US websites for $30..that's kind overpriced.
Conclusion:
Overall if you don't have a nozzle I would recommend the hydromax because it allows you to do a safer job when you wash the car because it sprays down some soap for you before you even need to touch it. It also allows you to do really quick washes if your car isn't dirty but you just wanna make sure it is spotless.
