Review for Sonus DAS pads please.

i have been searching throughout the forum and review sections but i cannot find any info on the sonus DAS pads. when i find something about it, the second someone asks if those pads are any good, the thread dies out. i myself has asked about it in other threads but still i did not get any feedback on them. maybe since those other topics were not about the sonus pads. so now, i am making a new thread about them and hopefully i can get an answer. so how does the sonus pads compare to the lake country ones? and for swirls, would you use the sonus cutting pad or the lake country one? thanks guys.

your not the only one to find that out.

Thats why I think I will give the Lake Country line a try.

Lots of positive reviews on that line.

I can't comment on which one cuts better but in my experience the Sonus pads are much more durable. My LC pads, both orange and white started to tear around the velcro after one use. The orange pads were so bad I threw them out after one use. Because the velcro goes beyond the edge of the backing plate this seems to alleviate this problem. I have used the Sonus orange three times and there is no sign of wear. So if that were the sole criteria I would choose the Sonus.

thanks guys. so just to double check, the Dual Action Pad Kit from autopia-autocare is made by Lake Country right? i am so undecided as to which kit to get. sonus or LC.

...but Im leaning toward the LC based on reviews here and on the DC forum.

Those new improved LC's seem to solve the velcro issue.

Post what you finally decide.

Does anybody else here hate the concave orange cutting pad? I am really leaning towards the Sonus one because its flat like the Autopia white polishing pad, which I think is great.

Orange is the cutting pad from Sonus, correct?

Ok, I guess I will chime in here since I have used both. First of all, yes the orange Sonus pad is a cutting pad. The V1.0 Sonus pads were not all that great, the backing plate would dig into the foam and start to tear into and cause foam dust to fly every where.:down But now they have come out with the V2.0 pads, these pads are great. However, the orange cutting pad is very very hard, when you use the orange pad it's hard to get the full surface of the pad to touch the surface. Therefore I don't beleive that the Sonus orange pad is the best to use. But the Sonus Green pad might work good as a cutting pad. It is firm, kind of like the LC yellow pad that I have. I like the LC yellow pad as a cutting pad, it seems to work a little bit better than the Orange pad from Sonus, and a lot easier to use because it is not as hard. IMO the orange pad from Sonus is to hard. If you wanted to try the Sonus kit, I would get the Green, Blue, Gray pads with their backing plate, their plate can be used with the LC pads if you decied to change! Now the Sonus blue pad is amazing, it is so soft you wouldn't beleive it. The LC polishing pad seems to be kind of hard, but the Sonus blue is a little bit softer and works great. The blue pad makes surface contact easy, there's now way you wouldn;t be able to make full contact with it, the LC white pad is a little bit hard to make full contact. I have not tried the Sonus finishing pad, just the LC. The LC finishing pad is amazing, but I have a feeling that the Sonus will be a little bit better. But I will be taking advantage of Autopia's Labor Day sale and picking up some more Sonus pads. The general opinion is LC, but the Sonus line is a great line as well, hard to say which is better. Because maybe a little biy harder polishing pad is better! Here are some pics of the new design next to the old! Hope this helps!

I'm trying to understand the feedback this comment is providing. I'm working on the Sonus V3 pads now and want to be sure to incorporate the features people want.

I compared the LC variable contact (VC) DA pad with the Sonus pad (both orange) and measure the amount of pressure required to achieve full contact. The LC pad requires nearly 15 pound of pressure to make full contact, and the pad is slightly smaller. The Sonus pad requires less than 5 pounds of pressure to make full contact (full contact is the 6.5" flat area of the pad, not the radius edges).

I did not use a VC pad for the Sonus line b/c I wanted to get more work out of the pad under normal operating conditions. The benefit of the VC pad is less splatter (at the expense of pad effectiveness), but this is easily addressed by learning how to apply polish.

Thoughts?

I won't hold my breath doug, still waiting on the constant pressure pads review :lol

Detailbarn .. Did you try those Sonus pads yet? :) Don't worry, I haven't been holding my breath!:lol

I was particularily interested in a comparison of their green and blue pads for use with a final polish like FPII.

Let me know what you think,

Thanks,

Actually I'm still waiing on the replacemnts myself , they got shipped but FedEx couldn't find my house for some reason and sent them back to Autopia , I just got an e-mail saying they where sent back to me , so hopefuly I'll have them some time next week. As soon as I get them I'll put them to use and let you know what I think of them.

I've been using the new Sonus pads, but to say anything other than there holding up is pointless.I hate the old LC pads but most here love um.So just because I like the pads won't necessarily be the case with someone else.

Are you using them with a PC? What polishes do you use? And which are your 'go to' pads for final polishes (think FPII or SSR1). I'm just trying to work out how many each of the green and blue pads to order. I'd welcome hearing your opinion, even if you do not 'follow the crowd'. Thanks.

I've used the orange with #83,green with #80,SSR1,AIO and some ColorX all by PC.Havn't used the blue one yet.So no matter what brand it is I'd like to have a at least one power or cutting pad,2 or more polishing pads and at least 2 finishing pads. These are my go to pads,I like the 7" size with my 5" flex plate, and I like the design of the pad. Can't explain it but I just like the feel of the pads.

I've used the finishing pad on the Version 2 and I really like it. I have not done any heavy cutting yet.

I also am pleased with the backing plate which is well designed and durable. I'll post more as I evaluate the other pads....

Thanks for all the advice guys! :bow

Just placed my order for a Sonus pad set and a few spare cutting and polishing pads :D

Can't wait to try 'em out :bounce

How many pads do you suggest to get? For me, I think one pad per step/product is okay because I wouldn't mine stopping at brushing off the pad with a horsehair brush...but how do you guys feel about that?

Does it take more than one pad per product-step?

Carl

Edit: David, by the way, are the new SFX Polishing Pads the V3 Sonus pads or are you still going to make the V2 into V3?
