Restoring Headlights

My Nephew called to tell me that the headlights on his Outlander truck are getting cloudy and the mechanic told him that he passed inspection but should get those fixed or replaced.

I guess they are not too bad, but bad enough?

I have the M105, M205, 106, the entire Poorboys Polish line including Pro Polish. and a finishing polish.

I also have Orange Pads, Green Polish Pads and black finish pads.

Can someone give me a suggestion on where to start?

I plan on Opti-coating the lenses when they are clear.

He is coming over tonight so I hope I can knock it out for him

Thanks,

Jeff

If they are really bad, I start at 400 and cross sand my way to 2000, them compoumd/polish. Here lately though, I've been using the DP AIO Headlight Polish. Its great for lightly faded lights, and even does an awesome job for buffing out sanding scratches from the bad ones. Its been a real time saver.
You might be able to hit it with some 1000 or 1500 and some 105 and clear them up enough to pass inspection though

I've had some pretty bad lights and I haven't had any problems with 1000 grit then 2000 grit followed by a finishing polish on the purple thin foam wool pad. If I have the time then I hit them with a white pad after just to get the DA marks off but they don't show very much.

This is very similar to the process that I use. I generally wetsand with 1200- 1500 then 2500 followed by M105 on a yellow B&S pad followed by M205 on a white Pad. I then apply a sealant or a good durable wax like Collinite 845 on the lens for protection. This works very well on all but the most neglected headlights which may require that the initial sanding process be started with a more aggressive paper like 600 grit.

I get very good results with 2500, followed by 3500, then M205 on white polishing pad. To seal, i use BFWD sealant.

90% of the headlights i do come out looking brand new

i'd go with "looked much better than before" :D

I did a set of HL for a guy that looked like someone had painted them with varnish..In order to get that off I used 300 grit SP....I then followed up with SP that went from 1000 to 3500 before I could get all the sand marks out. Even after polishing they came out nice but not near the perfect I was looking for....he on the other hand was excited about how they looked...

I had some cloudy headlights that I was able to clear up quite well with just a 3 inch cyan pad and Blackfire src compound on my pc
