Republic of Walmart MF's good or bad?

I hate Walmart but I had to go with my crazy wife, so why she was looking around I went to there car care stuff. Where else would I go. I seen that they had Microfiber towels. I seen they where only 6.87 for a single. They are 23.5x40 inches drying towels. I couldn't believe how cheap they where, but I forgot that there made in Korea by little 12 year old girls. Profits going to N. Koreas Atomic Program. Well anyways. One side of the towel is really soft just like a name brand would be but the other side has little bit shorter of fibers.

They honestly are better the last ones I bought online (not autopia). The shorter fiber side looks great for interior and the other side would be great for buffing and doing detailed areas you can't get with a PC. BUt we all know how to really tell when there a good quality MF. It's how they hold up after a wash. I use Sonus Pads and MF wash so they would be the true test.

Anybody else out there had experiences with them? They also have smaller ones also.

I have one of the large blue ones that I bought before trying out WW's. I've had if for a few months and still use it occasionally for drying but mostly for wiping out the door jambs, etc. It's in just good of shape as when I bought it.

I have one or two of the Walmart big waffle weave towels. They are not bad for the price. They do a decent job. Easy to obtain locally.

I still prefer my Pakshak waffle weaves though.

I feel you can get the same deal with our online vendors and KNOW they are quality.

Many vendors offer WWs and MF's at discounted prices for us Autopians and after the discounts they are usually actually cheaper or about the same price.

That's a good towel. To me it's just a larger version of some of the expensive plush MF's, the only problem with it is it's TOO big for most things. It's definitely a better quality towel than the Chinese (Microtex) in the 5 pack for $5-6.

I just bought a Microtex microfiber drying towel from Target for $7.99. The label said "Made in Korea." This wouldn't be the same quality as the ones you're talking about, would they? A while back, I bought a pack of 25 microfiber towels from B.J.'s. I think it's by Microtex, but they were definitely made in China. They also scratched my cars.:(

Sorry, I wasn't too clear. The Microtex drying towel available at WalMart (and apparently Target, too) is made in Korea and seems to me to be as soft and plush as many of the high quality ones that I have bought at "boutique" suppliers. The Microtex 14x14" that are sold at WalMart, and the similar or identical ones sold there without brand marking, or under the Baja Sol brand at Target, are made in China. These are very "sticky" if your skin is dry, and myself and others here use them for grunge or throwaway kind of duty (my friend uses them for bird poop cleaning).

I have a couple of those towels, I use them to finish up after getting the bulk of the water with a large WW. These are also good for drying after QEW wash. They're very soft and stay plush with repeated washings--a pretty good value for $6.87.

Uh, almost all high quality mfs are made in Korea, China's just getting up to speed on quality. Can't vouch for the age of the average textile worker there though. And I believe they're made in SOUTH Korea, little of any value is made in N. Korea.:p :(

Well, I just got back from Walmart and I see that the MF towel you guys are talking about is the same one I got at Target for 7.99. Looks like I got ripped!:(

Don't think it's worth my time to return it and get it at Walmart though.

I remember paying $9.99 for mine, which isn't bad for a towel that's almost 4 times the area of a towel which might cost $5. The problem with these is they are too big really for polishing which is what you use the $5 towel for.

These are good towels. I have had them for over a year and they do a very good job of drying my cars. they are made in South Korea. I lived in South Korea for three years ,while I was in the army.South Korea today is in some ways more modern then some areas of the states. I was there last in April 2004.

Walmart also has the same Microtex MF towels in a smaller size, 16 X 16. They're sold in pairs for 3.62. They're also made in Korea. They're a great size for polishing, I think. I actually bought the larger one to use for wax removal. I already bought a WW MF for drying. ;)

I just tried the big blue Microtex towel from Wally World, and I'd have to say it works really well for drying in addition to removing wax.

And you can't beat the convenience factor of "the Walmart" either. Need car wash soap, towels and beer at 1am?

I'll freely admit it: I love Walmart! It's convenient, everything is cheaper and if I decide that I need get some wax or diapers at 3 am, I can go to Walmart. Go ahead and spend more of your hard earned money somewhere else because you hate big business or something, but I want to make my money go as far as possible and if Walmart can do that for me, that's just fine by me!:p

I have never seen those around here in WalMart or Target. Only the 14x14 Chinese ones. Target has the 5 packs that are just like WalMart (some of these say MicroTex and some don't), but Target also has 2-packs of the 14x14 that are slightly more expensive and come in different colors (the 5-packs are blue and white).

I use the WalMart MFs (Microtex - blue/white...5/$5.87) for mostly grunge work, but I also use them to gently wash the road salt and other winter grime off my car during the cold months. I just don't like using my detailing towels for that job, and terry towels lint/dust too much.

I haven't noticed much of any scratching from them, but I did notice a couple very fine scratches the other day. But hey, if I can wash my car every couple days through an entire winter and just end up with a few light scratches, I can't complain!

IMO, it's a small price to pay for having a clean car all winter.

It is a Microtex. It's made in Korea. I just needed a MF that I didn't care if it got torn up and payed $15 for.

I bought a 6 pack of the Blue Pearl and those where $20. Which if you figure by price per inch your correct.

But there both made in China so it doesn't really matter with the quality. I have 4 MF's my uncle sent me and there unbelivable and there made in the USA. No tag on them so I don't know what company there from but there awesome. The best I've used by far. I've emailed him 4 times to ask him where he got them and my aunt told me they where $40 a piece! So after that I didn't want to know.
