Removing tarnish from muffler

I have an aluminized muffler and I have a polishing wheel to use w/ a drill...that works good, I'd guess it would with just about any polish [even paint ones]...but I was using Harley-Davidson metal polish or something like that.

Try Home Depot. They sell a 4" or so cotton buffing wheels on a 1/4" shank. It's in the tool area by the other bit and attachments.

Just remember to use light pressure (or you'll "Burn" the aluminum, turning it blue) and keep the wheel moving or you'll have one area shinier than the rest.

Welps...

Found some simichrome at Harley Davidson

so from this...

Thanks everyone!

Wow, thanks for showing the results! Those are probably better results than I've ever gotten, too! Good job.

Don't forget to put a protectant on it so it doesn't return to the "before" state too soon.

WOW! I'd apply Klasse SG, or a similar arylic polymer sealant.

When you get it reinstalled, PLEASE let us knoe how it stands up to the heat.

Very impressive.

Heh, I'd say Zaino would be great, especially since it is known for it's reflective qualities and durability.

Thanks for all the pictures, it looks great. It really makes me think I should do that to mine! I never knew that it could get that shiny!

How long did it take? I'm guessing between 1 and 2 hours. :)

Honestly? Took me about 30 minutes...

Simichrome takes all the credit...plus having the drill with buffing attachment made it a breeze. Polish on....buff off...repeat until satisfied.

Wow, I've got another thing to add to my list of stuff to do. That looks marvelous.

But wouldn't sealing that with Z...wouldn't the Zaino bake up and marr the finish?

I deleted the other thread for you since no one replied and you seem to have solved it anyway. ;) Good work!
