i got a black ipod 60gig video for xmas. it hasnt left my desk since then...and ive had it wrapped in a nice MF towel ahah...im not going to use it until i get my silicone case for it.

even while wrapped in a MF towel, i already have some swirls on the front of the housing and across the screen. the cheap *** **** apple uses scratches insanely easy.

so can i polish the front part of an ipod?? is the screen safe?

hmmm i've had good experiences getting light scratches out of plastic headlights with optimum polish on a polishing pad. try draping a MF over a vice and then grip the ipod in the vice to hold it steady when polishing.

HEY!!!!

I have the EXACT same problem!!!

I just got my g/f that same ipod.. Black video. Within 2 hours there were three small scratches on the screen.

Please mention your results and processes if you have any luck. It sucks to spend almost 400 bucks on something and within two hours its already scratched up.

When I got my Ipod earlier this year, I spend about 10 bucks on a silicone sleeve for it. It really helps when holding it, and i can lay it down somewhere and be less worried about it being scratched up! Best 10 bucks I've spent!

I'm pretty sure they make them for the newer Ipods....

I already ordered one for her. Now I just have to get the scratches off the screen and it she'll be good to go.

I'm gonna try some Brasso like the people on that forum were saying.

I was not really impressed with the results. Maybe if I had a dremel tool it would be different, but doing it by hand wasn't worth it.

It left tiny tiny marks which you can only see in certain light and not when the ipod is on. I was using a microfiber cloth too so i don't know what went wrong.

i used menzerna ip and fp to take the scratches out of my older white ipod. then i bought an invisible shield for that one and my black nano. menzerna worked well.

The only thing I know about ipod's is there expensive! I personally would be a little hesitant to use a

high powered buffer on a small electronic device let alone try to clamp it in a vice, my guess would be you run a distinct possibility of causing more damage than you already have. Also keep in mind to polish is to remove material and you could end up with a convex surface wich very well may distort your images. I would try using plexus (the only thing I ever use on my expensive and fragile motorcycle helmet lenses) and if it dosn't work consider it a lesson learned. Besides nothing stays new forever!

Has anyone else have success with the finer polishes since?

If not, I'm going to go to town with Menzerna IP/FP/106.. Do you guys think 106/FP will be safe for the acrylic screen?

I used ScratchX and a cotton buffing wheel from Home Depot on a drill. I locked the drill on at high speed and moved the iPod around the wheel with my hand. I wish I took before and afters because the screen was barely readable when I started and looks about 95% clear now. Took all of 20 minutes and when my son saw it he said,"Holy C$#@!

I used PlastX, not ScratchX!

ScratchX is the perfect product for this - I used my Mother's Powerball Mini.

The PlastX is not strong enough for the iPod plastic.

You can use metal polish with the Powerball to tackle the back of the iPod too.

I have used Brasso in many different screens from -camera to Ipods and plexi glass and it really works the best and it is very cheap. Can go wrong with it .

Cheers , Jean Paul

I clamped my black ipod in a vice and used 3M plastic cleaner and then 3m plastic polish on it. I applied it with my makita and a 2.5" lake country white pad. Worked AMAZING and looks brand new now.

Here is a picture after i got through with my ipod + makita + 3m products:
