Removing silicone based tireshine

This is my first message on here. I have a gallon of opti tire gel coming. What is best cleaner to remove silicone based tire dressing on ties trim. The stuff is pain in rear end to strip
 
Let me expand I know their will be some knowledge folks on here that created their own concoction of APEC + dawn + ISO alcohol. I`ve been use the solvent based tire shine I have tried normal cleaning with brush and scrub but the crap keeps coming out of ttttires(blooming). I want to completely stripped and then switch to water based opti bond tire gel
 
There was a thread on this within the past couple of months and though I can`t remember where it is. I briefly looked but can`t seem to find the thread. Heck it might have been on a truck forum I visit. I can see the picture in my head where someone was using a scraper and scraping it off. Maybe someone can help us out here and tell us if it was on this forum. Everyone agrees with you, silicone dressings can be tough to get off. Some had even resorted to acetone and mineral spirits as I remember.
 
APC, won`t work. Bleche Wite, nope. Tuff shine, try again.

you need a solvent. Mineral spirits I`ve heard will work. Forget scrubbing. Spray the tire or soak a rag and wipe it off. Throw the towel away. Repeat every few days until it stops seeping out of the tire. The stuff is horrible and nothing but a pain in the ass. But hey it`s shiny right!? And it lasts! Ugh. I`m so sick of those dressings
 
I have used tarminator and it kind of worked. Gotta be honest though, I dread trying to clean tires with that silicone dressing all over them. Not a fun job..and don`t get me started on trying to clean the silicone stuff the local car wash uses off interior paneling etc. No fun.
 
Tarminator is a must for getting tires clean imo. I do alc first but wipe down with tarminator before applying new dressing.

THAT. Easy answer once you`ve tried it (at least IME). I`ve used it to take incredibly nasty (dealer-applied) stuff off tires and other surfaces. Safe and effective, even if it might take more time/tries than something I`d deem less-safe. IMO every Autopian oughta have it on the shelf.
 
I forgot about rubber prep.

yeah the stuff works great! Not the cheapest but very effective.

i did buy it from autopia too. I believe I just did a search to find it on the online store
 
Heh heh, that was one of those products that I tried expecting to say "eh, overpriced [crap] that`s nothing special"...oh boy was I wrong about that!
 
I had that silicone crap on my tires, took me a year of cleaning to remove.
Nice to hear about GG rubber prep. and I have Mother`s so I`m set.
 
PA DETAILER- Mother`s seems to have lots of good wheel/tire stuff these days!

What`s that product like...does it require rinsing? How does it work on other materials like Exterior Plastics?
 
Accumulator-I`ve been through a case of it. Works great. BUT is so strong IMHO that I treat like an APC. I spray it on the tire (Definitely not an Accumulator proof operation). Then use the Tuf Shine tire brush to agitate.

I rinse off the tire and use a foam sponge to wipe off the rim and clean the overspray from the Mothers rinsing as I go. Regardless of what the instructions say I don`t spray and wipe off because

I don`t want anything left behind as residue that could effect the integrity of the paint on the rim. When the tire is dry I use Tuf Shine tire treatment. Quite happy with it . Lasts a Long time!
 
Marine Clerk- Ah, OK..thanks for the info. Sounds like a more potent version of something like GG Rubber Cleaner.

And yeah, other than the GG Rubber Prep I always rinse such stuff off just to make sure there`s nothing (that I don`t want) left behind.
