Removing fresh wax to try another product

I've recently been experimenting applying different waxes to the hood of my wives black ML350. I'm trying to determine which one I like best. Meguiars Gold Class, Griot's Best of Show, Griots Carnuba, Meguiars #20, Meguairs NXT, etc... I don't want to apply one wax on top of another. Other than washing the hood with Dawn, does anyone have any tips or home recipies for removing wax quickly?

Normally you can dilute isopropyl alcohol 50\50 with water to remove a carnauba based wax but when it comes to the #20 polymer sealant and NXT I belive I read that you will need a "good" cleaner/ polish to get these off.

You could section off the hood and use a different product on each section. That way you'd have a side by side test/evaluation rather than relying on memory.

i would clay and use a very light polish to make sure you get light marring the clay might induce. SSR1 or something similar should do it.

yeah, AIO is perfect for that. it would strip the wax off and it would better the surface everytime you used it. good thinkin dcswd. EVERYONE should own a bottle of AIO.

Well any pre wax/sealant cleaner will do the job. Sonus Paint work Cleanser, P21S/S100 Paint Cleanser, AIO, 4* Paint Cleanser, any of these will clean the old wax off the surface.

Thanks for all the responses. I am actually waiting for my order of AIO and SG to come in next week along with a can of #16. I'll probably use the AIO as suggested as it is a cleaner and polish.

What I'll probably wind up doing is a coat of AIO, waiting a day, and then 1 or 2 coats of SG. I will then top it all of #16. Does this sound like a good recipie?

close....

do a coat of AIO, then a coat of SG....

wait a day, do another coat of SG (repeat as much as desired)

then do #16.

Basically, on the first day do AIO and SG

Use something like Klean-Strip Prep All, I recently did that to re AIO/SG before topping with Souveran :up

I don't see why you would need to use Acrysol or a similar product for this. Any of the good pre wax/sealant cleaners should do the job. Acrysol or a similar product seems like over kill in this situation. The guy just wants to remove old wax to prep for some new wax.

A product like a Prepsol/Prep-All/Acrysol, etc cleans all of the wax or sealant off and leaves, bare, "naked" paint with nothing on it. Depends on what you want. Purist approach? Probably.

I'm with Bill. It depends on what you want, however. If you are truly trying to test a new product, as I do often, then you need to remove all effects of the previous product and you can't do that unless you use a solvent cleaner like Acrysol or do a Dawn wash, etc. (several methods work depending on if it's a carnauba or polymer)

Using any cleaner wax/paint cleanser product leaves its own protectants on the surface-which isn't a bad thing, but has an effect on the final outcome on whatever you put on top of it. ;)

PrepWash by TOL then AIO I guess works really well. Will AIO really take off all of the wax or sealants? I think seperate polishes would be the best way since they aren't cleaners or leaving anything after.
