Removing dealer emblem/badging?

The dealer put a plastic badge on my truck. Generally, I wouldn't mind having it, considering I happen to work for this particular dealership, but the people who put it on put it on crooked. This irritates the crap out of me. How do I remove this badge without damaging my paint? It's not a sticker - it is one of the chrome-looking plastic badges that is stuck on with some kind of adhesive (appears to be double-sided tape).

I have had good luck with the following method:



1) Heat the offending badge with a hair dryer or heat gun.

2)Using dental floss or fishing line in a sawing motion to cut the adhesive backing.

3)Remove the remaining adhesive with a product such as 3M Adhesive remover.

I totally agree, I have seen dyno's of 10+ RWHP just for taking those dealer badges off. :beware

Honestly, if it's a fresh plate, just yank it off. If you're lucky, there will be nothing to clean up, and usually there is only minor adhesive residue. I have done this with plenty of those "ads".
 
Isn't there a chance I could yank off my paint too?

Well, never say "never" but it's awfully unlikely. If you apply a little heat from a hairdryer and/or some solvent (adhesive remover, goo-gone, dissolve-it, etc.) the chances are virtually nil. Go slow, pull at an angle if you can, and you should be fine. You'll feel the adhesive give and it won't take much doing to make it happen ;) Today's paints and adhesives don't react to one another and bond together the way they did 20-30 years ago.
 
Sweet I may go out and try that tonight. I've got a power outlet in the bed of my truck so I can just hook a hairdrier up to it and go to work. Hopefully it won't leave any residue, and if it does I can get it off later I suppose. Leaving just the residue there won't hurt anything will it? :)

I'm willing to bet that Accumulator has debadged more vehicles than I have, and maybe I have spent too much time around industrial heat guns, but I would be worried about frying the paint with the hairdryer. My experience has been that even those plates that have been on for a year or so peel right off with some continuous pressure. Just pull evenly and firmly, with kind of a prying motion...I do it top to bottom because when you start at the ends they can snap, which can be a little unpleasant.
 
Ok got it off. That thing was on there good. Talk about some strong tape. Left a strip of the adhesive on the truck so I'll get that off tomorrow. :)
 
Uh oh. I think I chipped/scratched the paint up. I just noticed it. It's not big, about a 2mm x 2mm spot, but I think it goes down to the metal, or at the very least the primer. What do I do? I'm real anal and this is going to bug the **** out of me.



PS - I should add that the chip is really rough - like someone took a tiny hacksaw and scraped it along the paint in that spot. Should I just take it to a body shop to have them fix this since the truck was manufactured on 11/05?
