Removing bugs after applying SG?

I just got done applying AIO and 1 layer of SG to my 03 Envoy. It already has bug guts on the front bumper. If I use a tar and bug remover before I apply my 2nd layer will it remove the SG? Thanks!

I keep SG on my bumpers too and the bugs wipe off easily with just a wet MF, no bug and tar remover needed. After removing the bugs, put on another coat of SG for insurance using the "Billnorth wipe on, wipe off" method. The whole process doesn't really take much time, effort, or product.

If you do use bug and tar remover, it will *probably* strip a lot of the SG. So you'll need to reapply.

~One man’s opinion / observations ~

Additional polymer (Klasse SG) will definitly make removal easier, without the need for Isopropyl Alcohol or solvent bug removers.

Bug Residue:

Dried bug remains are acidic and can etch paint or glass surfaces, and should be removed as soon as possible. To remove the residue use a mesh-covered insect sponge, pre-soak heavy bug contamination with an insect pre-cleaner or Isopropyl Alcohol, re-apply paint protection once residue has been removed. To prevent any possibility of scratching from bug remains, use (QD or soapy water) lubrication when using a mesh insect sponge (Autopia Soft Scrub Insect Sponge) can also be used on glass, plastic, clear coat paint, vinyl, chrome and fibreglass

~Hope this helps~

The only time I have ever used *tar & bug remover* is on someone elses car that has left the bugs on .. If you wash within a reasonable time they wash off and the lil bits that don't will come off with your fingernail.

BTW I just did a 7 hour road trip in 90 Deg heat the day after I put Wolfgang on my bumper/hood and I was drop jawed at how easy the bugs *rinsed* off.. hardly any washing needed.

Friday I get to go 3.5 hours .. going to try a fresh layer again before I leave to confirm it.

Accumulatorette travels to/from the South a lot in her A8 and the MPV, so I know from bugs ;) I just remove the bug guts (while washing) with clay. Doesn't seem to remove much LSP, but if you only have one coat of SG on there you'd better put some more on.

FWIW, this works especially well on the SGed vehicles, but I have numerous coats on them.

I can't understand why one would use bug/tar removers unless absolutely necessary, because yeah, they're gonna remove your LSP along with the bug/tar mess. But *gentle* claying doesn't remove much LSP.

So do I, I just had a new front bumper painted and fitted to my car with Du Pont 2K paint and they applied some paint protection on it although I don't know what type. When I got the car home I topped with Bodyseal and a week later, two coats of SG

Now the paint is so smooth that bugs can't glue themselves to the paint and a wet MF is all that is needed. For other cars I use Malco Bug Off
