Removing adhesive problem...

Hi all, i'm hoping to get some advice/recommendations for a problem a friend of mine has. He recently purchased a used Mercury Marauder, to which the owner installed rain guards around the windows. He did not like the rain guards and decided the first thing he would do is remove them, however he states he is having a difficult time removing the adhesive residue. He told me that the glue is stuck to plastic chrome trim around the windows and I am looking for recommendations for him to remove the adhesive without harming the trim. The only thing he has tried so far is goo gone, which I have never found to be an effective adhesive remover. My advice to him would be to try a bug and tar remover and then step up to WD-40 and finally mineral spirits. I would think all of the above would be safe for the finish, but was looking for comments and or additional suggestions. Thanks for any help you can give!

I ahve used WD-40 with success in removing adhesive residue, you can also try 3M adhesive remover as well

Good Luck

I use 3M as well, but try a paint safe general degreaser first.
3M works, but I've not tried the competition.

Meguiar's Scratch-X will do the job. A friend of mine had duct tape adhesive residue on his paint. The Scratch-X did the job very nicely.

alot of body shops i know carry a tool for that...you put it in the end of your drill..preferably a electric or pneumatic but im sure an electric drill could do it if need be...i forget the exact name but its similar to an eraser ,they use it to remove pinstripes and glue from emblems before paint ...if done right with out burning the paint you could just buff it backwith a compound but you say its on the crome...so im sure if its safe for the paint the crome could hold up...worst case senario you have to polish the crome afterwards
