Remove scratches from chrome?

Is it possible to remove scratches from chrome? I'm working on a friend's 78 Harley and the thing is pretty beaten up. The paint shined up pretty well, but all of the chrome is scratched including the exhaust pipe. I've used some OTC chrome polish (turtle wax and eagle one) but they seem to be only chemical cleaners. Is there a product that can help me?



Motorcycles (even clean ones) are such a pain in the neck. I've got a lot of respect for people who regularly detail them.

Not gonna happen, unfortuneatly. Chrome is just a thin coating and it doesn't like to polish out well. Your best bet is to find a local chrome shop and re-plate it.

You can use a metal polish like flitz but then you will end up with polished metal instead of chrome as you will likely wear through its thin surface. In the end you will have more maintenance. Finding a good chrome shop is like finding a good body shop.

You can try Gords. It does have some fillers in it. I have had some success with an IP/FP mix on chrome where silly people believe it is safe to polish chrome with 0000 steel wool.
